Default beware of your brake line

Just want to tell everyone to be careful of their brake lines, snapping them at 100mph is not fun. Be very careful once they get older and if you put a little strain on them (I strained mine when i changed rotors i think)

also.. If you upgrade to stainless... Keep an eye on them for a while to make sure they don't rub on anything.. my passenger side front stoptech rubs using the alt. routing..

what did the car do when the line failed?

No brake line, no pressure, no brakes. Thats not very exciting. Atleast your ok, and I assume your car is alright, seeing as how you started to drive off in the first video.

Better luck next time out!

Yes, nothing at all. Pedal went straight to the floor, I don't even know how i got the car to slow. Of course I slide a lot way too, thank god for runoff space.

I busted a rear link, popped two tires and alignment is out. I wont know the extend of the damage until I bring it to the alignment shop. Of course the POS brake line too...

I'm glad you're okay!

I've repeated it a couple times already, Altought rare, even new rubber lines can fail when subjected to high temperatures seen at the track. SS lines aren't just a performance upgrade, they're safer too.

How old were they? How many track days?

After reading this post I and bought some techna fit lines. My pedal going to the floor after almost 20 minutes was enough for me. So I am just going to do it all.

I say about 20 hard track days, 36K miles on the car (of course the line burst right after my warranty went out). I ordered a new set of OEM brake lines because I have to keep the car stock for autox and track stock classification purposes. From now on, front brakes line will be replaced once a year and once every two years in the rear. I still have to bring the car to an alignment shop to see the extend of the damage too. I bent the front lower link the best i could, dont know how good that is going to be.

I will also limit my driving. Instead of doing multiple hot laps, i will just do 3 at a time

Sorry to hear of your incident. You mentioned "straining" the lines themselves when changing rotors and this can happen if you leave the calipers "dangling" as you swap out the rotors. Always use a bungee or wire hanger to support the caliper itself if you are doing any type of brake work.

i didnt leave it dangle, it fell once, that might have been hit. I will make sure that doesnt happen again. That could have been part of the problem, plus the heat. I think i did 10 min straight in that session

SS lines count as a mod in AutoX ?!? That's silly IMO.
It should be a free safety mod...

That's why it's important to use a bungee, tie wrap or even a twisted wire hanger to secure the caliper. There's a lot of stress if the caliper drops and that could have been the cause of the line separating from the crimped end.

Not sure what you mean by the heat (contributing to the failure)? Unless the brake line comes in direct contact with the caliper, rotor or other component, you shouldn't have any catastrophic failures of the line itself.

It shouldn't, but it does happen.
The radiant heat seen when tracking the car will affect the rubber hose.

I learned my lesson, I am ordering the RF hose next week too. No more track days until I get all new lines

Wow, glad you're ok man.

I agree that's it's weird that SS lines count as a mod.

If anything they should encourage the use of them.
