Default 7-22-07 Autocross video - New POV and camera mount

All,

My girlfriend bought me a new camera mount for my birthday. It can be seen here:

http://www.stickypod.com/osc/images/...iginal_640.jpg

Its freaking awesome and is versatile to give many different angles and points of view. This time I mounted it on the hood up close to the glass on the passenger side. I thought I was going to have a lot of wind noise, but its pretty quiet, and I love how you can hear the exhaust and also the intake noise quite well.

The autocross went well, the course was very fun. I am starting to get a lore more comfortable with my setup, and I am very happy with the car's behavior. The only qualm I would have about it is that the car is that it does seem that I dont have enough rubber out back for the power I am demanding at times. I guess next season having more rubber out there will hopefully cure this, as well as some thoughts about getting a better LSD in the car. The car is very flat and predictable and will only get faster as I get better as a driver. There's a few areas that you can definitely see a lot better with this POV and mount where I can improve.

Enjoy!

Youtube always takes an hour or so to get their video's published, so if it doesn't work, check back later!

You guys running AutoX, do you ever get in third gear on any of the tracks you run? Also, how long are they, from that video I would guess somewhere between 1/2 mile and 3/4 mile....just wondering???

Yes, 3rd gears are very short on the earlier Z, they only top out at like 60mph. It's not uncommon to get into 3rd.

depends on the course, sometimes I do get into third, but often you dont make up any time by shifting into third between the time it takes you to shift, then to downshift for a corner. Our autox region shoots for courses between 30-60sec long.

I have been doing some autxing and every course is over a mile and I am in third most of it. I bog a little from time to time, but I figure it is quicker than shifting back and forth. We do ours on a local runway....so they are pretty fast, I have actually been in fourth on one of them!!! Actually shouldnt have been, I missed the next turn! I like the autoxing, but I cant beat some of the guys that come out. I run with the local Porsche club and they have some 4 and 5 time national SCCA champs out so I guess I shouldnt be too upset! Most of our courses are timed at right about a minute....they are fun!

Keep in mind that in the novice class, they usually place you pased on the PAX multiplier, and BSP's PAX is not kind.
If you had a car in GS or STS and were in novice, then you'd have an advantage.

Sadly, the SCCA Solo division is not friendly to the 350Z.

4th gear?? Something is not right. That violates some safety standards, for sure. Even when we race on real tracks such as CMP, I don't get out of 3rd. And I am usually in the top 20 overall RAW And PAX, and I race in Tire class!

PCA, POC, and BMWCCA autocrosses don't limit speeds like SCCA does. Its common to be in 3rd gear at those events and I've occaisionally just touched 4th gear.
