Exclamation burping differential fluid

does anyone have any issues of the diff fluid coming out of the breather tube? i didn't use to have the problem when i had the stock VLSD, but now that i have the cusco, i noticed it after a weekend at buttonwillow. there was maybe one pint of fluid splatted on the left hand undercarriage.

i saw one member a long time ago make some sort of a catch can, but did a search and couldn't find it again. have you guys made anything like that. just trying to get some ideas.

Maybe you just overfilled it a little. Pull the fill plug and stick your finger in there. The car must be absolutely level.

That happens when you race the car hard. When we fill the diff we let the small amount of excess drain down before we install the plug. We use Red Line Oil in our car throughout.

Yes the differential overflows out of the breather tube under race conditions. There are 2 things you can do to help this.

- Build a simple catch can (I used a small nalgene bottle mounted to the subframe)
- Replace the overflow hose with a hose about 3 times as long as the stock one and loop it around a few times before it reaches the catch can. The long hose catches most of the overflow fluid and allows it to drain back into the diff when it cools down again.

Search under my name for more info on my cheapo homemade solution.

Yup, my car did that when I had my quaife installed and took it to the track. Rob at ZCarGarage just replaced the breahter hose with a really long one so the fluid would just drain back after cooling.

i read your thread about a year or two ago, but i couldn't find it again (when i needed it); imagine that i am definitely going to have to get under there and do this catch can. i don't want the fluid all over the track, then people will look at me like this

I don't make it down to too many SoCal events these days. Come to think of it, I haven't been to a speedventures event in over a year..

well, i found a pretty good alternative to the catch can. i followed the suggestion of some of you and went with a really long tube. well, it was just two feet, which is twice the length of the original. after tracking yesterday, i checked the undercarriage and it looks like it worked! all i did was wrap it around the subframe once and put it back in the stock locations.
