GT Motorsports Built/Tuned Cars, Feb 2nd Willow Springs Raceway
NOTE CHANGE IN DATE TO FEB 3rd - Sign-ups NOW OPEN
Okay, okay....this is it, a track day for all the FI cars built and/or tuned by Sam and his crew at GT Motorsports.
I've gone to two events put on by Speedtrial USA and they are pretty cool guys with lots of instructors for the beginners.
Date: February 3rd (Sunday)
Location: Rosamond, CA
Track: Willow Springs Raceway (Big Track)
Costs: $150
More Info: http://www.speedtrialusa.com/index1.html
What better way to show that GT Motorsports can build cars that will hold up to the abuse of the track, than to simply put them on the track.
In either case, I will probably still be doing this event on my own regardless of interest. BUT, I would love to be able to run with my fellow GT brothers

if you can make it out, sign up at the website for the beginner's group and add that you are with Vinh. the earlier you sign-up, the better chance we will have enough room for everyone.
PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE TO FEB 3rd
1. DrSifu - Vinh APS ST w/external wastegate and HKS FCON VPro
2. Carfi179
3. Hexxum001
4. acg
5. joedirtpharmd
6. boostedG - signed-up

you don't need track wheels, you don't need an oil cooler.
i was in your shoes one time. thought i needed this and that, but in reality, take it to the track and see how it performs. you're a beginner, you're not out there to break wordl records.
it should still be cold in feb out in rosamond. the last two times i was out, it was 27 and 26 degrees.

Yes, this is a GREAT idea for you guys to do. I encourage everyone with a built "track ready" car to participate in this (or any) track event, especially in a GTM "track built car" (no pun intended)
Good idea, drsifu
Let me know if anybody needs any help.

I agree with Scott.
The big track at WSIR is a good place for a beginner to get some experience with speed from their FI car, on a relatively safe configuration that is not technically difficult, provided that there is, as always good instruction.
The track is not hard on brakes, or steering, and the cool weather in February will be very happy for the FI car engines. The sustained high velocities of that track will push a lot of cold air through the intercooler and radiator cores, so overheating will not likely be an issue either, and if you have bigger tires but no power steering coolers, you still may be ok there as well. It is not so good for tire adhesion in the cooler weather, but you cannot have everything and newbies should not be pushing those limits anyway.
The one caveat is Turn 9. The diminishing radius high speed Turn 9 will require extra special care and repeated warnings to the beginners, because once it goes bad on you there is no escape. But compared to most tracks, where one may have three or four challenging places, this is a good one to have some safe fun at with a high hp car.

^this man knows his tracks
i've never done willow springs raceway, but based on the track layout and some help from YouTube, it does look like a favorable track for high HP cars.
it has a lot more track than say Streets of Willow and hopefully not as technical as Buttonwillow
LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!

I DO NOT have a "GT Motorsports" built, and tuned car.
..... So I guess not.

i keed i keed. track is open to anyone who wants to come out. if i get enough interest, I can get our own run group. but seeing as how we are mostly beginners, there would be no reason for a seasoned pro like yourself to be running with us
