Default 2008 Dixie National Tour

Just wanted to see if anyone is gonna be going. I'm registered and this will be my first big event with the Z, and the first event on real race rubber. I've done some shakedown runs locally and I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you all on the National circuit. I see the Cavanaugh's are registered, as is Carter, so there will be some pretty good folks for me to compare against. Curious to see where I'll stand!

Anyway, here's the car in fighting trim:

Just to recap, she's a 2007 Enthusiast, with a bigger front bar, koni yellows, and 285/30/18 v710's.

Anyone else going, feel free to post!

This is a SCCA National Tour autocross that is hosted by the Dixie Region at South Georgia Motorsports Park. 2 days of fun and competition.

We have a problem. My 07 was totalled by a mechanic while test driving it this week. He's okay and I just can't get mad since sh*t happens. They are very helpful so far and looking for a replacement car and I plan to upgrade to an 08. Even if I get a new car in soon I have to get Konis added (old ones on the 07 are destroyed) and a trailer hitch. I asked my daughter-in-law if we could get the 03 out of retirement and she said NO so that's out.

We might not be there in a Z but hopefully all will work out.

Hey Mike,

If you have 18x8 and 18x8.5 wheels with rubber you can have a seat in my car. PM me if you are interested.

Later,
Dustin

Thanks, I really appreciate the offer. However, I couldn't leave my son out. His going with me is one of the benefits I get out of autocrossing. This is when I get to find out how he's doing.

We'll have a car but I don't have confidence in the what the prep level will be by then. We should be good by Ft. Worth or Atlanta Tours.

Man, that really is bad news. I would extend the same offer if you need it, but it sounds like you have a car. Should anything fall through, PM me as well.

Otherwise, can't wait to see y'all there.

Let me know if you need a set of Koni Sports -- I have my old ones that still seemed pretty good but would probably benefit from a rebuild.

Sorry to hear about the mechanic problem, hopefully everything will be "back to normal" very soon!

No Jason, not in the least tempted. Off the autocross course I love being in a Z, commuting or going to the store. Can't say that for the guys around here in RX-8s from their comments.

Keep up the articles in Sports Car. I can find something to read in it now.

I drive ours every day. No problems at all. Unlike your Z I can fit the car seat for the kid.

Been there, done that duty years ago in vans and 4 door cars. The Z is just for me.

I used to drive my Z every day (nowadays, I rideshare -- with WiFi). . Mixed, I got 22-24 MPG. Just on the highway, I easily get between 25 and 28 (I've seen as high as 36 MPG at 55 MPH on level ground).

What's the MPG on the RX-8 again???

Wow, good to know I'm not the only one that drives his car everyday. Is that rare in stock class at a national level?

As much as I hate to admit it, if I didn't have to drive this every day, I prolly would end up getting an RX-8 simply because it is the took for the job. But I'm with DriveI65, this thing is just so much more fun every day. No kids so no real need for a backseat, so I'll live it up while I can. Maybe if we get pregnant, I can convince her to let me get an 8

Until then, see you all at Dixie!

I've got two kids, and we've got one "family car" and my Z.

I'd guess that more stock-class competitors "daily drive" their cars, although there are some that only bought their cars just to autocross.

Ok, we know the RX-8 has fuel problems, needs quarts of oil and moonlights as a mommy wagon.

So back to the original question... Who's coming to Dixie?

My situation looks better. I should have a car by then, maybe not prepped but we will have fun. I was surprised to find out that Tirerack doesn't carry Koni Sports shocks anymore for the Z.
