Default Radical SR8 or Ultima GTR?

I've decided to sell my Z but I'm tossing between the SR8 and GTR.

http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/gtr/
http://www.radicalsportscars.com/index.php

I haven't been able to find any direct comparison between the 2 cars. The closest thing I've found are laptimes of the GTR720 and SR3 on BBC's Top Gear track.

GTR720: 1 min 12.8 secs
SR3: 1 min 19 secs

The SR8 would obviously be quicker than than the SR3 but would it be quicker than the GTR?

Interested to know your thoughts.

I'd definetly go for the Radical. They have a much stronger presence in racing. I'd go for the high Downforce SR8. So increadible!

I'd go Ultima GTR, turn-key setup.

^^^ Plus it has a windscreen and can be driven on the street as well. Can't beat it's 0-100-0 time either.

Ultima GT-R ftw! I don't know how many times I wish I could drive my formula 1000 on the streets.

if you want a dedicated track car go with the SR8 but if you ever want to drive it on the street the GTR is the way to go.

I don't have any time in an SR8, but I do have a little experience in an Ultima and a SR3.

The Radicals are a much more modern design and you can feel the difference in the Aero. The SR8 will turn faster laptimes and is easier to drive. It can also be made street legal in some areas, but with the open cockpit and it's ride height I would question that.

The Ultima GT-R is a brute, depending on what engine you put in. It is well balances and a hoot to drive. It can get a bit quirrelly if you have real power coming out of it. A few of the benefits is a closed cockpit, better street ride qualaity, and street friendly ride hieght. Also, because it uses so many vette parts its easier to maintain.

Other options is you like the Radical is the Stohls and the Diasios. The Stohls were the car to have in Sports Racer B and A for the last few years, and now that the new generation of Diasios are out and moved up to SRA, they may be the new "Car to Have".

Car will be a dedicated track car so ride height, comfort, etc will not be a factor.
I've never driven the Ultima so would like advice from people who have driven either. Lap times for both cars on same tracks/similarly skilled drivers would be ideal.

Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks Marty, appreciate the feedback. Car will not see the streets so better ride is irrelevant but the closed cockpit might be an advantage 'safety-wise' in case debris flies around.

Which engine did the Ultima you drove have in it? Do you think the SR8 will turn better lap times than a 720hp Ultima?

Since it's going to be a dedicated track car, Radical hands down.

As mentioned above, they actually have a presence at track events in this country. I have a day booked in a Radical in September out west I'm looking forward to.

A stohr, similar to a Radical, just turned a 1:07 at Summit Point. And that was a DSR car. Absolutely amazing time. These cars are a little more, can I say it, radical than a Radical. They have tunnels and run in the $60k range with no spares.

What attracted me to the Radical and Ultima are the 2 person capacity as opposed to cars like the Stohr.

DRE350:

A buddy and I are going through the same search. We are leaning toward the Radical SR3 because a number of track-day organizations insist you have an "instructor" ride along until they sign off on you. One would think the SR3 would be priced about like a Stohr or West but SR3 is nearly twice the price.

Stohr and West are lighter (around 850 pounds) and faster then a Radical SR3but SR3 has that elusive extra seating capacity. Good luck!
