DIY:Video Camera Mount
Hope this helps someone. It's passed two tech inspections so far, but you far more experienced folk may have other opinions.
Ingredients: ~1' square of wood(I used pine). (2) 25" bungee cords. Non-slip mat(I used something for tool boxes). Wood screws. Camera mounting hardware(I used RAM).

Put the screws in like so to connect the bungees to. Cut notches so the bungee can stay in contact as much as possible.

This was rock solid on two track days as well as ZDayZ Dragon fun. Any suggestions, please PM!

bah, won't work for me
stupid subwoofer box is in the way and I love my music too much to take it out. Only thing I would suggest is do something with the coloring of the wood, maybe just rattle can it black or something so the base doesn't stick out as much.

They passed it for tech w/o something like a zip-tie or tie-strip tethering the camera? That (no offense) cheap-o ball/socket mount could very well let loose if you smacked something and you don't want the camera becoming a projectile. When we rigged my (former - sold, no accident haha) Sony HDV on a Bogen SuperClamp on my cage they still told me to loop a zip-tie through the tether and another around the cage in case it broke loose... might have just been an over-zealous local official but I took what they said to heart.
That aside, very smart use of materials at hand on a budget. Got any footage from it online?

thanks for the comments. Indeed it's version 1.0. Painting it black would certainly help. I don't leave it on all the time so I wasn't thinking about the looks just yet.
As for the "cheap-o ball/socket mount" - it's by RAM Mounting Systems. I'd trust it in a roll over. My Z Nationals videos were shot with a pretty heavy 5 year old camcorder on it.
Several videos from Z Nationals/ZDays/track day at Nashville SuperSpeedway all filmed with it are at http://www.youtube.com/user/GrumpySmurf68

Well that's encouraging (the RAM mounts are sold by Racer Parts Wholesale). Wasn't trying to be critical, merely bringing up failure points, glad to hear you've done it right!
