i would suggest getting some Puma's first, they are cheap and you will get the feel of driving shoes. if you wear them out, then you can decide whether to step up to Piloti's or stick with the Pumas. I found some Puma's at DSW for 20$. next door at foot locker they were $65, same shoe.
i try to wear mine outside of the car as little as possible, to keep them clean and to reduce wear on the soles, plus i wear a 12 and they look kinda funny because they are so tight and thin.
check DSW, Foot Locker when they run the buyone get one 50% off, or Zappos.com.

yeah DSW and marshalls can be hit or miss with larger sizes. sometimes you go in and that is all they have. definately check the discount places first,(marshalls,tj maxx, famous footware, DSW) alot of them have the Pumas for a lot cheaper, or check to see if there is a Puma outlet near you, maybe get some dope Pumas for an even better deal.
My wife's friend used to work for Puma at the home office in Germany. she got my wife some of the schumacher ones with carbon fiber/fire retardent for like $20. My wife's foot is 'sample size' so she always got the hookup.

i have a brand new pair of size 12 piloti prototipos in blue leather--never been worn still in the box. i would be willing to sell if you are interested. they were a "free" gift when i signed up for worldclassdriving.com.
not to thread jack--but wc driving is worth every freaking penny!
i drove : mercedes slr, ford gt. gallardo spyder, 911 gt3, and f430. was able to get all of them over 100 mph. gt3(137mph)

The wrasslin shoes work just fine because they have very thin soles. Just don't walk around in them a lot........they wear out quick doing that.

Nothing fancy for me. I just have a couple pairs of Adidas Adiracers that I used for AutoX maily. I've also used them a few times for Go-Karting and a few times when I hit the twisties on my motorcycles. I've also worn them on longer bicycle rides, too.
One pair is like this, the other is brown leather.

Puma soles are narrow as are Addidas (see pic above). Piloti's are much more comfortable for my fat feet. I use Piloti's for casual footwear as well as at the track. However, I also have Impact high tops and they are great too.

i got a pair of these..comfy, light and great for driving! also cheap...i picked mine up for $40

If you want to get a good feel for driving shoes for very little money, then I can suggest the Adidas wrestling shoes. The have a good sole, and plenty of flexibility in the ankles (more than the Pumas).
But if you are serious about getting true driving shoes, then look at some FIA certified ones because they have fire protection and will be allowed at all venues (compitition wise).
