I used to wear a pair of puma street shoes that can be found for $40 at any discount shoe outlet. They were thin, flimsy, and comfortable. I purchased some Sparco racing shoes about 3 months ago at a hefty discount of $125 because I'm starting to invest more in safety gear as I am getting a little quicker.

After wearing the sparco racing shoes, I found that I prefer the cheap pumas for feel. The sparcos come with a slightly thicker sole, so I can't feel the pedals as well as I could with the pumas. I used to wrestle in h.s., and I think that the wrestling shoes would feel really good too, but the high-top portion of shoes might impede flexibility at the ankles.

shoes don't make a whole lot of difference. I work for a major .com shoe site and get like 4-6 pairs of free shoes a year + 40% discounts on any others, so you can imagine I own a few different pairs..

I find that my flatter skate shoes are the most comfortable (dc, eS, etnies..) my running/athletic shoes are good for it and more comfortable then the skate shoes (adidas, new balance, asics..) and that dress shoes are absolutely the worst, especially the heavier ones (dr martens)

just find some comfortable shoes that fit your feet and style well.

Too many of those won't allow you to feel the pedals through the shoes. Remember that your body only contacts the car in three spots, your hands, butt and feet. The more communication you can get in any of these the better.

Wanna be different and look good?

Influenced by all things Formula 1, McLaren is releasing a collection of lifestyle and performance driving footwear with designs inspired by the shape of the MP4-23 F1 car. The initial releases includes modern driving shoe styles and a performance racing boot which can be viewed after the jump

Even has celebrity endorsement by Lewis Hamilton! What more could you want..

Since I originally posted my responses here G-force has come out with a VERY affordable line ofr FIA and SFI rated shoes.

http://www.saferacer.com/auto-racing...nufacturerid=8

They are pretty darn comfortable and pedal feel in the is excellent. Keep in mind though that I am recomending these as Driving shoes only, and not cross functional.

The PUMA Repli Cat II L US is the ideal product for the race sport enthusiast, while also being a lifestyle statement at the same time. The material isn't fireproof, but it has a hot, premium, ultra-thin leather and perforated suede leather upper for supreme style. The midsole is PU while the outsole is rubber. This shoe is a must-have for each Motorsport activity, no matter if you are a driver or spectator.
If it's a race shoe, it has to be fireproof.

Now if they had said "Driving enthusiast", that would be a different deal.

I forgot to mention I wasn't looking for hardcore racing shoes. These are just for the weekend mountain runs. I just went with a "casual" driving shoe. I ordered the Puma Speed Cats.

I ordered and returned some Piloti DTM-R because they provided zero pedal feel.

Man that sucks. I got the Avus, I hope they work alright, $100 for a pair of driving shoes that don't provide pedal feel is a rip-off
