If I had to do it all over again, I'd start by going to a school that provides their own cars. The fear of stuffing my car into the wall was a bit overwhelming at first. It costs more, but you don't have to worry about wear and tear, nor do you have to live with the burden should you crash the car.

Most schools will charge you for the damage if you crash one of their cars. Even with their wreck insurance you're still liable for the first $5,000 (or some amount close to that).

Ones that I've been to limited liability to $2000 or so. I'd rather walk away paying $2000~3000 rather than repairing my own car (which could cost way more especially if insurance doesn't cover it), then the additional hit on my insurance rates and depreciated value, which could easily be 15%+ of the market value of the car.

I toss and turn the night before and event...I think I drive the track all night in my dreams...However, I don't recall ever "crashing in my sleep"

Does insurance cover if you crash your own car?

No.... You will need HPDE insurance coverage. For a stock 350Z it will probably cost about $150-200 for the day.

actually, it depends on what state you are in and what state the car is insured in.

Currently there are several states where coverage still applies. They may drop you afterwards or charge you a fortune in premiums afterwards, but they have to cover.

I know what ya mean Jet...I definately suffer from the same thing. I am a drifter with about 20 events under my belt and the night before I now take Tylenol PM and make sure I get a good nites sleep.

I have tried twice for my pro license and both times I drove like absolute crap. I am sure over time this will become routine. Funny thing is, there is a track here in Phx with entry speeds about 100mph and I never get anxious there. The 2 times I went for a pro license were on slow tracks I can and have murdered and I looked like a newb.

I live for those monthly track days tho, couldnt imagine a better feeling.

I think the jitters helps a bit. Keeps you on edge...but the lack of sleep can't be good.

My first event I was sleepless. The second I slept, but still was nervous that morning. I expect to be nervous for awhile.

I was told by Geico (my company) that as long as an instructor was in the car and I was being taught, I was covered. Has something changed?

Yeah, a Porsche into a Celica last year -- something that "everybody seemed to know what happened" but nobody cared what really happened.

Actually, I think your referring to the Porsche GT/Ferrari Incident at Cal Speedway?

I'm not sure anxiety would be the word to describe how I feel leading up to a track day. Excited might be a better word.

But, it is difficult to sleep the night before.

I get anxious as well but only when I get in the car. I put the helmet on, strap in and all of a sudden I start to freak untill the clutch is released and I start moving.

I am an aggressive driver so often times the back end is coming loose, I am late braking like crazy and my adrenaline is so high that I get of the car shaking. my hands just shaking uncontrollably

Actually not, but that is yet another reason.

Another was a another well-distributed video of a Viper going into a wall at PIR (Phoenix) during a "driver training."

I don't remember the Celica one. However, the PIR I do.

About every track day I've attended I've seen incidents that could of easily been avoided if the drivers were focused and didn't panic.
