Default problems with this set up...?

Sup dudes,

I'm setting my car up for drift/light track duty and am starting to look at wheel and tire options. I was thinking of running 18x9.5+15 all the way around. For drift, I thought 245/40 up front and 245/45 out back. Will this set up make the car handle funny on the road course because of the matching offsets? I was thinking of running a 10mm spacer out back to compensate. I know I could run wider tires, but I want the car to lean toward oversteer.

Please don't flame me for posting in this section, I thought I'd get a better response here.

Thanks!

If you want to run a 245 mm tire 9.5 inches is too big. A 8.5 inch wheel is suitable. You gain no advantage with a 9.5 inch wheel.

I want to run the 245 for sake of less grip for drifting with N/A power. Plus, I can use the 9.5+15's on my other car with wider tires (265/275)...just trying to be cost effective. Thanks for the input.

Yep, 9.5" is way too wide for a 245 tire...just buy some old stock wheels for track/drift stuff....

This is the Autocross/Road forum. Don't know anything about "less grip ." Sorry.

...I think you guys are missing the point of my post. The original post asks...

I understand tires play an important role, but what about the identical offsets front and rear? Will this, in itself, have an adverse effect on handling of the Z?

Not sure if this will be helpful, but it is *an* answer to your question. I run 18x9.5 +27 with 275/35/18 Khumos all the way around for the track. This has dramatically reduced the amount of understeer I was getting with a staggered setup. I think you'll like the square setup for the track. I don't drift so I can't say anything there.

some people like square setups, some people hate them. There is no right or wrong, it is all how the rest of the car is setup combined with your own personal preference and driving style

I say you go with 18x9.5 +27 with 275/35/18 also...

Well, here comes a learning curve . I think I'll do the 18x9.5+15's on all fours. Thanks.

A "square setup" gives you more front grip/traction....i would think even with small/stock sized tires (<275)

No. I do the same thing (square set-up) with both my autox and track set-ups.
