First HPDE event!
Just joined NASA in the Great Lakes region and signed up to volunteer at the Mid-Ohio event on April 11th.
I hope to do my first event June 6th at the new Bluegrass Course in Ky.
I hope to do at LEAST some new stainless brake lines and some super blue fluid. Any other recommendations?
Also, helmets....anyone know the regulations on those?

See you there! I'll likely be one of the only Z's there - Carbon Silver 04 in HPDE3. Feel free to ask if you have questions.
You'll need to upgrade your brake pads too - I hear Bluegrass has a really long straight.

I've already done a few laps on Bluegrass (not open to the public yet) and the front straight is very long! Should be fun!
I'll have to look for you up there at Mid Ohio! Do you know the regulations for the helmets?

^+1 it's addicting, too bad it seems like not many Zs do this.
check your brake pads and make sure they're not almost gone. change engine oil and you're set besides the ATE super blue brake flush. And probably painters tape if you plan to tape up your headlights/front end or tape on your car #.

Hey Sektor- hope you enjoy NASA. I go to track days at Putnam Park in Indiana (2+ hours from me in Louisville) and I'm real eager to get to Bluegrass as close as it is. They've had to cancel some April events but hopefully they'll be ready to go for their May dates. If you're not too busy with NASA check out the schedule through the summer for Bluegrass. A Cincy group called 1010thsmotorsports.com has a bunch of dates scheduled (I'm up there May 11th with them). You'll have about 5+ hours of possible track time during the day. Also, be sure to follow Slow Jim's advice and get track pads. I use Hawk HPPlus from Tire Rack and some of my friends really like Porterfield R4 pads. Both pads work well with stock rotors. Put on stainless lines if you already have them, but I've used the stock lines going into my 4th year now with no issues. You'll definitely want to upgrade your brake fluid to ATE or Motul as mentioned.
hey man i have a hpde event tomorrow at limerock...prepared my car last night, hopefully the weather gets better here for the event. Anyways good luck and im sure you'll enjoy it and like the post before me said it is truely addictive after you do your first one.
I reccommend Carbotech XP-10 pads, Goodridge SS lines, and ATE fluid. I use this combo on my '03 track model and have yet to get the brakes to fade. This is with a stock suspension on 19x9 255/35f and 19x10.5 285/35 SSR SP1's & Pilot Sport PS2's.
I'll have a novice group at the event I'm doing at Bluegrass in late July (hopefully by that time they'll have all the kinks worked out)

I highly recommend the Carbotech pads.
Since it's pretty easy to change them out and after a few times you can do it in about 20 minutes it worth having two sets of pads, a street and a track set. If for nothing else at least to have something to drive home on if you burn through a set.
