Default So I am gonna buy a real race car...

Hi Folks,

I am taking my Z back full stock, removing all the go-fast parts, and gonna buy a real race car (1994 BMW 325i..see pics below) and just drive the Z on the street. So this is just a "teaser" list today, and fully detailed list with pics and prices is coming soon.

I luv my Z on the track, and it is pretty fast in TT events. But I want to race W2W, and can't see building a race car from my 2006 Grand Touring w/22k miles on it. Plus, the BMW I am buying is only $5K...so I can race RELATIVELY CHEAPLY

https://my350z.com/forum/competition...-of-the-z.html

And this is what I am buying, 1994 BMW 325i, it runs in NASA Spec3, GTS1, or PTE, or TTE classes...also can run BMWCCA and PBOC...

Not sure I would've gone with a '94 BMW, but to each his own I guess.

Another one! Again I'm months too late (last time the part-out sale was a few months too early). Regardless, I'm interested in some parts. I'll PM you later.

hence the :P
...this is the first board where I've seen this used. I was actually "looked over" for purchasing something on here (had the money in my pocket and the car keys ready to go) because someone else called "dibs" first.

Heh - fair enough. I never call dibs - I ask for a PayPal account address, even though that didn't work for me last night when I tried to buy Axelerate's exhaust.

It is normally cheaper to buy a race car than build it...

I have looked at a FINE 350Z PTB race car in Atlanta, but that cost $18K...and I don't have $18 and then have to buy a trailer for $2-4K...

there are quite a few reason's not to do that.

1) Replacement cost. Which would you rather do, wad up and replace the $5K car or the Z. In W2W racing, that is a higher possibility and if nothing else, there will be bumping.
2) How big and even is the class you want to race in. Spec E36 is a good class and racing can be done at a reasonable price
3) Racing parts availability. The E36 cars have a lot of stuff available and because there is a racing series built around them, the parts are cheaper.

So on and Etc.

Man that's cool. Good luck on the partout. I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm just starting in the world of HPDE's and already I'm thinking to myself, really? Do I want to do this in a $20k+ car?

Wish I could buy stuff but I'm broke lol.

I'll be in ATL next weekend!!

I am going to split this into two threads.

1) for the new purchase
2) for the part out in racing classifieds.

I'm probably going to buy a very similar car in a year or two (but likely a coupe for a couple reasons).

Those b25's run forever, and the chassis is super simple to work with, along with most body work being stupid simple.

mhoward1: thnx for the MOD work...I will post a full detailed list of parts with prices & pics in the proper section ASAP...Thnx Again!

BTW: Didn't I see you on the NASA forum looking for a race car also??? And selling some stuff to raise funds? Small world!

Again, sorry folks for the mess that I have made and "thnx for lookin"

WOW, I was going to buy that car!

It comes with really nice "extras".

Instead I'm going with a Spec E30 with trailer out of SC for around the same price. I'm going the same route as you and I'm also getting a truck out of the deal.

If you want the part list for that car, I got it from the NASA SE director (who built it).
