Default Wheels for Solo2

Since I plan on making power and aero upgrades in 8 to 12 months, I'm looking for the best grip out of wheels and tires for Solo2. I do not care what class it places me in since power and aero upgrades later would push me out of B Stock anyhow. My 04 Touring Roadster 6-speed has factory 18 inch wheels. They're heavy. Even monoblock knockoffs seem the same weight or lighter. What would you guys advise if all I'm looking for is light and the stickiest. Oh -- the car will be trailered to/from the track, so pure race tires are fine. Could I go as low as 16 inch wheels? Is that too small? Advice appreciated.

Enkei RPF1 wheels. Light, strong, and not too terribly expensive, plus you've got a lot of options for sizes.

As far as tires, are you planning on just running locally?

16 inch wheels are fine. I would look for a "friendly" wheel. One with big holes for lug nuts.

how competitive do you want to be?
Since this is your first time getting serious about solo, you would probably benefit more from running street tire first. RE11, Z1 star spec, Kumho XS, Toyo R1R are all good start if u want to run street tires.

If you want to jump right into R-tire, I would recommend Kumho V710 instead of Hoosiers A6. You might not able to unlock the full potential of the R compound tire yet, and V710 last much longer.

PDX racer is right on the money about the wheels

I love the Enkei RPF01 - especially in that SBC color - would look nice on Silverstone. Not sure that I want to drop nearly $300 a wheel, though. The Kumho V710 would be just as good as a Hoosier A6 since I'm a noob. It is still a very serious tire.

If I could get away with it, I'd buy some cheaper wheels that fit appropriately .. maybe even some of those lame knockoffs .. just so I don't worry about scratching, denting, dinging, destroying, etc. They probably wouldn't fit well and/or would weigh close to what the factory stockers do.

So 16 inch wheels would fit eh? V710s and A6s would be a little less money in 16 inch as opposed to 18 inch. Wondering how the smaller diameter would effect handling, though.

16's would likely fit with stock brakes...but if you're going that crazy with the car, stock brakes are surely not going to be part of the equation

I think I'm going with 18" RFP01s in front and 19" RFP01s in back with Hoosier A6 tires. They aren't factory sized since I have an older 350Z on 18x8 at all four corners, but the seller who has them says they're in immaculate condition and his asking price is less than I could buy even uber-crappy wheels and tires for. Looks like it'll be BSP for me instead of B-stock, but that's fine. Just out to have fun.
