He was offline, but he was a noobie. I never let noobs run their first lap with me without some instruction.
I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference for #s 1 and 2. I did wonder about #3 as I didn't see a point-by and I had thought that was mandatory. As for #4, I was also thinking that wasn't the best place to pass for a HPDE.

But as I said. I've never done one so what do I know? Still, it does interest me.

In the comments section of the instructor video the driver says he got the point-by and it was a passing zone.

As much as the instructor was complaining, I'm sure he would have said something if he passed in a no-passing zone without a point.

I expect students to screw things up. That's why they get an instructor.

This instructor was asking sarcastic questions like... "Nobody told you about smooth?" WTF?

I would have said, "Nobody told you it was my first time? Oh wait. I just told you when you got in the car."

Who needs seat time when you can just "tell" students about driving techniques, end expect them to execute as "told" before they even complete their first lap.

agreed.

Start instruction from step one. Talk to them about what to expect on the "First" time out. Talk about safety, and procedures. If you see a possible safety issue, address it at the first safe moment like the small straight away and such. If it's a big issue, bring them into the pits and just sit for a minute.

This guy was a jerk from minute one. He didn't want to be in the car, my guess is ANY car and was just looking for an excuse to get out. The driver did nothing to warrant the treatment he received.

wow I have yet to make it out to an HPDE, I would really like to this summer, and as a noob I am sure I would make mistakes... but man to get an instructor like that would suck, I cant believe he was constantly criticizing the guys shifting and lines...that looked like a terrible experience..

In some HPDE organizations the instructors get a discount on the entry fee. Maybe he felt he met his "instruction" duty by doing one lap and now he could get on with driving his own car around the track and show everyone else how to do it.

A lot of people who want to instruct for us ask us why we make them jump through so many "Hoops". This is exactly why we want to know exactly who is in each students car.

It is kind of funny. The instructor may normally be a great guy who just had a very bad day. Maybe there was some interaction before they got in the car that would color the story somewhat. In any event, since his bad behavior was caught on video, now the whole worlds track community thinks the guy is a jerk and a loser.

Makes me want to be extra careful whenever there is a camera around.

To be honest, the fact that he did all of that while knowing he's on camera is the scary part. What does he tell people who don't have cameras?

Actually, Hookedondriving is a very well run HPDE organization. That instructor was just bad, and HOD has since eliminated him from their roster.
