Well I bought the LFX27L3-BS12, Cold Cranking Amps:405

I called SHORAI to discussed, and they highly recommended using the highest rated battery for the Z due to overheating issues and drawing too many amps at once and then charging the battery too fast after start. I went with the second highest rated. Will see how it goes. I also bought the charger. They said the charger balances the charge across the cells and lengthens the life and performance of the battery.

 

ive been running the Braille Green-lite lithium for about 2 1/2 years now.
its the G9, only weights 1kg!
it does sometimes struggle to start first time on a cold winters morning (-2 to 5°C), but never had an issue otherwise.

 

How often do you drive it, and keep it on the charger?

 

being that its a race car it has a kill switch, which i turn off. it can sit for months and not go flat like that. it doesn't self discharge anywhere near a normal battery.

 

I just figured when you mentioned starting it on a cold winter's morning, that you might take it out a little more often. Either way, this option is definitely starting to sound appealing. I was also under the assumption that these batteries needed to be taken out regularly and put on their special chargers. Thank you for the information. Now I'm waiting to see how these Shorai's do, but I have a feeling I'm going to be needing a battery soon.

 

Braille do sell a special charger, but a basic works fine. Infact the good (smart) chargers for lead batteries often dont work.
