Akebono track pad selection
I've been searching to see what AutoX guys are using on Akebono set ups for the track. I'm going to enter a NASA HPDE 1 event in early Nov at Homestead Motor Speedway and I'm looking forward to staying out as much as possible. I've seen offerings from the following.. EBC, Project Mu, and Nismo for 370z applications. I know there's a couple of guys here that track the Akebono set up but I cant find the topic I read of a guy with a PPW Z tracking his. Any help would be much appreciated.
This only has a little bit to do with track pad selection, but I think it's a must read for people who track their Akebono setups. I would also recommend a brake fluid flush (and upgrade) before you head out.

I'm aware of the Nismo overheating the brakes but that is in my opinion a different case being that I have upgraded rotors, ss brake lines, and a different car. I was hoping to hear from they people how track Akebono's on the 350z. Thanks anyway though..
Definately upgrade fluid, Prestone Dot 4 has a good 500F dry boil point and is at most auto stores. ATE Superblue is another good choice that doesn't break the bank. OEM/Dot 3 fluid is the weakest link.
I'm running EBC Yellowstuff on the back. Yellowstuff (if available for Akebono) is probably sufficient for a new HPDE driver and has max temp around 1400F or so if memory serves. I haven't tested Yellowstuff on the front yet.
I was running Ferodo DS2500 (1000F pad) all around but ran into overheating issues (spotted/warped the rotors) on the front as my lap times fell and braking became more aggressive. No issues with the back however. Both are suitable for street use.
I'm running Hawk DTC60 which are decent, but think I'll switch to Carbotech XP8, 10, or 12s next set. EBC Bluestuff might be worth trying too but not sure if they support Akebono. These all are track only pads.
You might check "the 370Z" board as well, they'll have a lot more first hand experience w/ Akebonos. Have a awesome time at the track! It is highly addicting though!
