I've been running the old Bridgestone RE-01R's for the track since I picked up a whole bunch of them when they were being discontinued or I got them off of ebay. Usually paid less than $150/tire new and I thought the RE-01R ran really well at the track and I got great tread wear.

What's the brand/tire closest to the RE-01R's that doesn't cost a fortune? I know the RE-11's cost around $240 tire new. I'm still running stock rims so I'm looking for 225/45/18's and 245/45/18's. I run at Putnam Park or Mid-Ohio.

I've done a bunch of research and I ended up buying Toyo R888's... being that theyre R-compound they kinda much but at about 190.00 a tire thats kick ***. I bought 4 tires for 830.00 shipped to my house from Tiresdirect.net(vendor here). The sizes I bought were 245/35/18 and 275/35/18. I'm entering in a NASA HPDE1 event in mid November so I'm looking forward to starting my race addiction.

 

OP, i know the feeling, i love the RE-01r's.............I'm also looking for a replacement. Im looking for a tire like the RE-01R that have a seriously strong sidewall and grip like the RE-01R's........

I would want a 245/45/17. I use them as front tires while drifting and they are incredibly amazing. The grip and hard sidewall give amazing driver feedback through to the steering wheel and I need to find a tire similar for sure...they also have a rounded shape to them at the curvature from sidewall to thread pattern...........looking at wear patterns im certain that helps as well...

Don't know for sure about sidewall strength, but i heard that the Direzza's were an option? anyone confirm?

I am in the process of moving to 285/30/18 R888's all around to replace my star specs. I have to say.....the star specs were better than I had even hoped, but I just want to try something different.

 

Are R888's wider than normal street tires? In other words will a 275/40/17 R888 be the same width as 275/40/17 Kumho's. The reason why I ask is, I was told that some R-Compounds are wider than street tires.

 

I was told that they are more square on the tire shoulders... My R888's are going on RPF1's in 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 +15. I was told it will fit nicely with my ride height.

I couldnt find them in a size I could use... I heard the original 615's where surprisingly good. Hoosier's R6/A8 and R888's have an excellent size selection, but the R888's where such a good deal I wanted to try them first.

 

I loved the 215's, then just liked the 615's. I am hoping the new K's will bring them back to glory.

 

Well the Porsche they have running them seems to do well so we will see.

 

You can run larger sizes on the stock wheels for sure. . . if that interests you. You can also run a Toyo R888 or RA1 (if you can find them), although that may be a pricey dual-duty tire. I also think you'd be happy with the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs.

I have four RE01-R tires I'm looking to unload, but they're all 255/35/18, near-new condition. PM if interested.

 

Toyo R888's for $190/tire?! I'd jump on that too. I've not see that tire anywhere near that price. Locally I'm being quoted $300/tire for R888's including tax, mounting, and balancing. I've got my last track days of the year Oct 29, 30, and 31 and I still can't decide what to replace my worn out RE-01R's with. The RE-11's are $240/tire. Has anyone tried the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 Tires? There about $220/tire and have a symmetric tread pattern so I can swap left for right as they wear. What's the cheapest folks have seen the R888's in the 225/40/18's? (I don't think they sell the 225/45/18's)

I've got the Azenis 615's on two of my Alfa Spider's, and they're the best street tire I've ever used on those cars. Not sure they come in sizes to fit the Z, though, or how well they'd do on a car that's so much heavier. Just be careful in the rain!

 

The hankook RS3's are far better than R888's, and azenis. The only other street tire that is comparable is the federal 595 RSR.

 

I went with the 225/45R18 Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08. We'll see how they compare. Looks like the RE-11's can't be swapped side-to-side and TIRE RACK says these AD08's were a close second to the RE-11's and they are $20 cheaper a tire. I'll report back on how they do.
