Default Brake ducts through bumper

Title is supposed to say 'through bumper' but I guess I can't edit it.

anyway...

After reviewing my class rules, it looks like I am open to modifying my bumper for brake/air ducting in any way I please.

Anyone who has run ducts from their front grill know its a painful and inefficient way of doing things, since there is almost 180 deg of bending to work around. Not to mention, crowding the front grill. Being a ghetto racer, I figured I would try running a more direct route.

I remember seeing a picture on here of someones car with ducts cut in to the side of the grill, but for the life of me can't find them (I think its the guy running the massive oil cooler?). I would love to see more detail on it though from anyone who has done this. What was in the way? Did you need to remove the washer fluid completely?

Also, side question, is there much value in the titek air ducts? Im not concerned about 'ram air' or whatever ebay is calling it these days, but decreased air and engine temps are always a plus.

There are a few brake duct threads, just look around in this section. The intake duct, i want to get one and try some data logging. I doubt it will hurt.

Sorry let me clarify.

I already have run brake ducts, much like the ones in those threads. As you notice though, is it makes a 90deg turn, then another 90deg turn, which could be avoided if you ran from your bumper cover straight in (can MSPaint it to show what I mean).

I know there was a guy on here that did it, I think I came across the pic on here.

As for data, before brake ducts my left/right front rotors were close to identical temps after a 3 laps + 1 cool down. With ducts on 1 side only, that side was 20% cooler. Thats with all the bends, and the intake being just ziptied to the grill. I want MOAR.

Oh.. you want to go from an area on the bumper closer to the reflector/turn signal? instead of starting at the grill area? Interesting.. I don't think I've seen that thread..

What about an aftermarket bumper that already has openings down there? I've seen pics of bumpers here that would be perfect for this. They could be easily adapted to a duct hose than runs straight back to the brakes.

Some people have tossed around the idea of removing the factory blinkers and utilizing those slits. But, it would take some crafty fabrication work to get something that would fit the back then funnel into a 3 inch circular hole.

Default brake ducts...

I think I have some photo's somewhere of going through the bumper. I'll see if I can find them. I almost went through the bumper and had laid out how to do this. I couldn't get over cutting the holes unless I had a back up spare front bumper. There were also some systems of going under the bumper but that seemed like it would only work if you could make some custom inlet ducts.

Default brake ducts...are these the photo's?

Found them quicker than I thought. I think. Is this the design you are thinking of?

^thats the one I think, thanks for digging it up!.

An after market bumper would be best, but costs 'points' which Id rather not use if its free to hack up my stock bumper (spares are cheap).

Looks doable, maybe Ill give it a go this winter. I also like the quick release on the bumper he has there too, would make life easy.

Whether you like it or not, it's another reason I run THIS bumper:

You could use something like this...

The factory bumpers look to be too far off to the side to me, unless you could somehow get that duct to stick out enough. Either way, Im set on hacking up my bumper (or at least getting a body shop to) once I measure some things out, I just wasn't sure if the washer bottle had to go or not.

Should be a good way to fight winter boredom which is right around the corner.

I always thought this one would make a good setup thinking the same as you...mounted closer to the side of the front. It's offered i cf and aluminum in 50mm and 75mm. This is the only place I've been able to locate them. Ducting is available as well.

Okay, if you want to catch the wind passing over a surface you could use a NACA duct like Ferrari, F1, etc.

Look at this link, the options are much less expensive than the post above:

I would love to see someone integrate a NACA duct on our stock bumpers...

Not sure where it could go and be effective.
