Default How to properly wire in a master cut-off switch?

I have been searching and finding a lot of threads on other cars, but no specifically the Z. For the track guys out there, how have you done yours?

Thanks Laze,

Lots of people talking about if you just cut the battery it does damage to your alternator. Plus I didnt know if the Z33 had more electrical crap that I didnt know about.

If anyone else has done this I would appreciate the input!

This car was built by the PO 2-3 years ago, but I am not aware of any Alternator problems at all.

Mine is wired this way:
Battery Positive terminal wire is routed thru a hole in the bulkhead created for this purpose into the passenger compartment>
that wire is connected to a standard cut-off switch, then routed back to the engine compartment thru a hole created for this purpose>

then the +wire runs it normal/factory path...Appears to be pretty straight forward

Note: My car is still using the factory Key switch

I plan to remove the key over the winter, and this may cause some significant rewiring...as I am sure there are several interlocks/theft prevention devices to work around.

do you not need to cut off the alternator as well? I've read some guys getting the 2-post switch and wiring the battery to one post, and alternator to the other, so it cuts them both off.

Perhaps specific race series rules define it better.

So yours basically is in line with the positive power from the battery? Seems simple enough. Looks like there is some conflicting opinions as far as if this is safe to the alternator, however these are all different cars. I was hoping to get some Z33 specific info.

Has yours been tested by any safety inspectors?

Thats what I have. They have a diagram how to do the wiring. It's not great or anything, but you should get the idea.

BTW, haven't installed it yet. Thats going on Friday.

Inspected by NASA-SE, current NASA log book...raced regularly...

However, NASA is NOT SCCA, so who knows what a through inspection will show?

BTW: just purchased the car, but not aware of any electrical problems...

I will probably snag up the one at Pegasus. The kicker is if I can find the proper power wires for the alt and ignition system. I wish I knew someone local more familiar with the Z's electrical system to get some guidance. I have the FSM so I hope that helps.

Hoping to tackle this job soon. Could anyone lend some help in showing me which alternator wire I should be tapping into?

I got this switch from Pegasus, here are the directions. Yeah pretty straight forward I know, but I am just unsure what alternator wire I need.

Here are the instructions:
