New 5.0 GT in T2?
Yikes.

Looks like they gave it a full bag of upgrades.....springs, 10" wheels, sways, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised to see mid pack T1 traps at Road America. At a minimum this car will be in the 420-430whp area.

Apparently, per the thread I linked, Ford racing had their own closed door meeting with the board. While everyone else got a open, town hall style meeting. A lot of very upset people. Hard to not call foul the way things look, but I would be surprised if any car in t2 is within 3 seconds as it sits now at Road America. This car is going to make 40-50whp more than the T1 C5 Z06's. Granted they are heavier, with smaller wheels, etc, but with that power level it really goes against the class philosophy IMO.

On top of the suspension, etc....they can use the track pack 14" brembo's...which are very good. Tire sizes for the GT are 285/305. The 350z is arguable the best handling car in t2. It will be down ~125-150whp to this car however.

I put money on it, the problem with Ford's argument was that the GT is not targeted to run against the Corvette and Vipers. It's geared towards dominating the T2 class most definitely. Weighs more than the C5's, has a price target right at the Z's, Camaro SS, Genesis, etc, it's probably part of Ford's selling strategy for the Mustang. If they went into T1 they wouldn't be noticed sitting in the back or middle of the field. They need to dominate and always be on top.
Once they dominate (because they will) the T2 class, sales will rise for GT's and Ford will be happy. What Ford/GM needs all over again is a displacement handicap. , that's how they stopped the GT40 from dominating.

I should mention I don't have an issue with the 5.0 being in T2. I think it would good for both SCCA and Ford. However, it must get a restricter. If they can cap the power at or around 330-350whp I would probably quiet down, but these damn things make 380-390whp right out the box with nothing added. That's the same as WELL prepped T1 C5 Z06 (not apples to apples due to weight as I said), and that has no place in T2. The F-bodies are in the same weight region, but can only make 320-330whp in T2 trim with worse gearing, brakes, and suspension.

First National for a properly built 5.0.....................it wins at Road Atlanta......shocker. Looks like Kleeman edged him by .1 in qualifying. Pretty crazy that, arguably, the best prepped T2 350z in country can't compete against the 5.0 in its FIRST race. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the year IMO.

We run 4 z's (3 350's and a 370z) and this is a typical thing SCCA does to us. we were told a few years ago that the 350 was ment to be the benchmark for the class.....then came along the Soltice. Now this.....AWESOME.... I guess that the Soltice demo's were up and the board need a new demo....

Even with a much better corner exit onto the RA back straight.....the 5.0 walks away from the HR T2 Z....
