Default Tracking your cars with powdercoat rims - anyone do it?

Put a rock through my Touring V1 yesterday, so now is a good time to get some Track wheels, (on a budget of course) and all that I find are powdercoated sets. I've heard good and bad, does anyone have experience with track abuse on powdercoated wheels?

My car is otherwise stock aside from brake upgrades.

Every powdercoated stock wheel i have seen has cracked, seen them crack while street driving, and seen 3 wheels crack at an autocross in 1 day.

I would buy a set of cheap XXR's before i ran EOM powdercoated wheels on the track, hell i would replace OEM wheels with XXR's if i was tracking on a budget.

http://www.xxrwheels.com/xxr_522_19.shtml 9.5 with good offset and just over $500

The only real issue with powdercoated rims is the powdercoating hides cracks until they are huge and dangerous.

One of the reasons you see so many PC rims that crack though isn't because of the coating, but cheaper rims use PC to hide low manufacturing standards.

Another good budget minded option is the MB Competition.

My Buddy "Mike the Powder-Coater" will NOT powder coat wheels...because of "potential" liability problems with wheels after the heat treatment that powder coating requires...but he DOES powder coat his own wheels...go figure

^Nice guy that Mike.. I spoke with him on the phone a few times about my calipers that were being done elsewhere. He answered all my questions. Good businessman.
