Default Point of No Return?

At what point did your car become the track car?

I own a TT 2003 G35 Coupe that I've been modding for years. Last year I broke my AC condenser so I removed all of the AC on the car. Compressor and all, I think this was a turning point.

It seems year after year with more and more laws regarding speeding/stunting/racing (Ontario laws), its more headaches to drive a modified car on the street than its worth.

I think I put more miles on the car driving to and from tracks than putting around the city.

My rear seats are removed, trunk is gutted, I rock 1 racing seat, the car is heavily modified to suit me.

So at what point was your car modified so much that there was no point in going to stock or selling it, it eventually just progressed into what it is now. When did you say, its all or nothing and gutted the car?

You can always put a car back to stock but becomes much tougher when you do things like a weld in cage or remove entire systems like the A/C. At that point, pretty much a track car for life.

When it was painted green last year, I knew that was it. It was already gutted though, but there is no turning back now.

Another indication was when I bought my Titan with Big Tow package for the "future".

You keep the car plated still?

Thanks. And same with my Titan! I do keep it plated so that I can drive it to local autoxs and even local tracks, like Laguna, since it's only an hour away.

For me it was when I decided that I was tired of dealing with the compromises that keeping it a street car wasn't worth it.

Heck I just sold the thing and bought a tube frame race car, the consumables are actually cheaper.

For me it all started with my coil-overs. The ride was great, but the ride height and the stiff suspension it started getting really old daily driving. Thus came the daily drivers and it all went down hill from there.

After a couple years of HPDE/PDX I was faced with either taking my hobby to the next level, enjoying it as-is, or selling the car and getting something new/faster/better. I came to the conclusion that no matter what car I had I would sooner or later be back at this dilemma, except with a more expensive car. So I decided that since I owned my Z since new, and that I was kind of attached to it, that moving forward to build it as a dedicated track car was the best thing for my hobby. A big deciding factor for me was also my own personal safety. I was getting faster in DE's and felt that I was starting to push some limits and that I probably should have the proper safety gear.

I do not think I was prepared as some with regards to how a full cage does change the game significantly. A little scary, and a lot of excitement, but it is there now, with still so much further to go.

A race car is a car that you wear a helmet every time you drive it. Everything else is a street car that gets driven on a track from time-to-time.

I want to relocate my Oil Cooler, unfortunately it will have blocked air flow.

Thoughts on drilling holes into a perfectly good bumper?

Gotta do what you gotta do. If it's a race car, I wouldn't worry about looks TOO much. Function over Form.

Anyone ever do that? 2" holesaw?

I always assumed that's what people did to get those holes in the bumper.
