Goodbye harness bar, hello custom rollbar!
Sold the harness bar and stepped up to a custom rollbar to go along w/ my Cobra seat/harnesses. Came out nice if you ask me =) What do you all think?
Car is built for NASA TT competition, looking to kick some butt next year in the Florida Region. It would be nice to maybe even make it out to Nationals to compete in TTC or TTD.

Thanks, it's been a long time coming, I'm glad I finally did it, I'm loving it.
I stripped out the interior myself but the bar was custom built by a fabrication shop in Stuart, FL. As for price, I got quotes from 3 shops @ $800, $1100, $1500. Was considering a Kirk bolt-in but as people have said on the forum, the custom is better and the price difference isn't huge (once you factor in shipping and installation) for a custom welded rollbar that could easily be extended to a full roll cage in the future. I'm glad I went this route.

I may do the full roll cage at some point, not sure if/when though. Would do that only if I was planning on w2w w/ NASA. Would be cool if there something like a SPEC-Z class.
I'm hoping the rollbar will pass tech inspection for NASA TT (though the TT rules are much more lenient compared to the w2w rules)......was hoping to get feedback/opinions on the quality/safety of the bar since some of the forum members seem to be experts in this domain.
Still need to add padding (required for TT) and the harnesses need to go through the clips one more time too.
The installation looks good. I have never seen the type of junction at the top of the main hoop diagonal. Do you know why the fabricator did it that way instead of a regular fishmouth?
Not sure why he decided to do it that way.....I also thought it was peculiar and asked if it was as strong/safe as the typical "fistmouth." He said it was fine and actually said its more difficult/time-consuming to do. I'm kinda like it...as long as its safe and legal. Maybe its a drag racer style thing...dunno.

I've sent a picture out to a number of other SCCA techs to get their opinions. IMHO, its fine, just a bit more elaborate then necessary. The only question might be the requirement that the diagonal be a straight length of tubing.
Wow, thanks for the insight, curious to hear what they say.

Once you go with the front loop and a pillar bars, even for smaller guys like us, it starts to really get cramped - especially once all the padding is in place. Add side door bars, and it's a real trick getting in and out. Guess I need to join a yoga class so that I can get in and out of my car now.

BTW, the work looks great. Stay safe and have fun!

Nice MIG welds and clean construction. A large step-up from the harness bar you had before. Be sure to look for offset high-density rollbar padding when you buy and install padding.
