Default Webiste aimed at autox

I am working on a website where a person can watch simultaneous car videos side by side, the idea is to watch multiple autox runs and see where a person took a better line or to just compare runs. The videos are hosted on youtube and are streamed on the site.

The site is very much a work in progress and the worst part is that I have very limited content.

If you are interested, visit my site, give me critique and let me know if this idea is stupid or if it might be useful to you as an autocroser. Also if you want email me and I will give you instructions on how to post your videos.

I'm stupid when it comes to web design, but it seems like you have a good start.

We have an autox this weekend & people will obviously be videoing. Would you be interested in having different people submit their videos?

Absolutely, please sign up on the site and when the videos are available you'll be able to link them from youtube. I am currently working on putting together a guide on how to embed multiple videos for new users and that will be available in a couple of days.

Also if other people from your club are interested in this please pass my website along.

The webiste was an idea of my friend/partner in this who autocrosses. The best he could find was youtubedoubler but that requires constant parameters and does not work well so he gave me the idea and I started making the site. This is my first website so I am welcoming all constructive criticism.

It may be my slow laptop computer, but the first pair I tried to watch resulted in one video starting and the other....loading.

It would be more work, but if you could find a way to re-combine two video's so that youtube treats them as a single video, it may work better.

Here is one of me and my brother in the same car, with the cam mounted in the same place, on the same course. I combined them before I uploaded to youtube:

So computer load-time issues don't mess with the timing between the two runs.

Thanks for the critique, I know exactly what you mean and I know the issue occurs for some people. The problem is that I am limited by funds so I cannot afford to host the files, because of that they are streamed from youtube so I am at their mercy in terms of loading speed. I could combine my own videos prior to upload but I do not think there is a way for me to do that while allowing other people to upload their videos independently. I do appreciate the feedback and am looking into buffering techniques to see if I can somehow make the process more consistent.

I just found a plugin for Chrome and firefox(doesn't work on firefox 12) that helps with the video buffering a lot. It's called smartvideo for youtube. If people are having problems with videos not syncing or one playing while the second one doesn't, give this plugin/extension a try.

IMO you would do better to pull down the videos, combine them as done above and then reload the content to YouTube for hosting on your own account. If you add some artistic flare to the content, you might even be able to monetize the videos under your own account - but I would recommend getting the permission of the original video owners first.

Asking folks to install plugins, etc. to get your site to work the way that you're intending it just isn't going to lend itself to keeping a first time visitor's attention or encourage repeat visitors. I'm not bagging on your idea, just having run several sites myself - I've learned the hard way that most people leave the site the second they have to "think" or "act" to get something to work.

Thanks for the suggestions and critique. I would like to combine the videos and reupload them to youtube as one video perfectly synced but it is simply not practical in terms of time. If an individual wanted to do that and then post a single video then it's perfectly fine.

The plugin is in no way required, but might help if people have trouble viewing the two videos simultaneously.

I created a help page that is sent to new members showing how to upload multiple videos, let me know if it's straight forward.
