Default Autox tires

Hey guys I'm looking at getting some tires for my stock 18's for autox and light tracking and I wanted to get yalls opinions. For budgetary reasons I have narrowed my choice to kuhmo xs, toyo r1r, and nitto nt05. Btw the size will be 245/40/18 all the way around.lets hear your opinion!

Hankook RS3 , and those sizes are fine. Or do a 245 front and 255 rear

I just bought some wheels for the track and was looking at the same tires. RS-3s get great reviews but they are pricey. NT05s are less but the size I wanted is back ordered with no delivery date available.

So, between the tight budget and NT05's not being available I compromised:

Hankook Ventus evos.

Not in the same class as any of the tires you mentioned but a set of 265/40/18s is $888 mounted, balanced and out the door. And right now there is an $80 rebate which takes the total down to $800.

I just could not pass it up.

I have driven them on the track once in my G35 coupe, and I have never driven on the tires you listed above so I can't compare. But, there were no glaring deficiencies for occasional DE use. Can't say about auto-x.

If they stink at the track, I'll just use them for DD. Will report after next track day which is June 2-3.

I've ran Sumi's HTR ZIII on a few DEs and I like them. and for the price, it's best bang for the buck to me. Don't let the treadwear fool u, they're real summer tires.

Dunlop Direzza Star Specs are another option. Great on the track in the wet and dry. I just picked up my second set (3 track days and 8k street miles on the first set) in 245/40R18 upfront and 245/45R18 in the rear to keep the same stock OD stagger front to rear for $1002 mounted, balanced and taxes. You will not be disappointed.

From the selection you posted, the T1R's are the quickest out of the bunch.

Light track and autox? Kumho XS is pretty good (and by that, I mean CHEAP!)

Ideally, you would be best off with something like a V710. Handles autox very well and does ok with the track as long as you find a way to keep them from getting too greasy (which isn't terribly hard to do). It's a good all around tire that really doesn't "fall off" in autox use even after a few long track days.
