Default Spec Z Brake Ducts?

Any of you NASA guys know how this would be interpreted?

Brake ducts are not mentioned in the Spec Z rules at all, but the PT rules allow brake ducts including cutting holes in the front fascia. I know SpecZ is not a PT derivative, but I would think that they'd be allowed in some form (maybe naca ducts underneath).

What are the current SpecZ guys doing? In light of Steinhoff's brake issue at the Natioanls (and recent brake failures of my own, Rob Hines and Jeff Degriek) I'm thinking there should be an allowance for brake ducting.

My personal belief is that brake ducts should fall under safety (as long as the ducts serve no other purpose...cooling or aero). It's not an opinion of the populous I'm sure.

Have you guys seen this in the NASA_SZrules_2012v6.docx version 2 of the rules?

17 Brake System
17.1 Brake System
a) Brake pads are unrestricted.
b) Brake rotors must be the same type, material, and dimensions as OEM. Brake rotors from
alternate companies may be used. Brake rotors may be cryogenically treated.
c) Steel braided brake lines may be used.
d) Disc brake backing plates may be removed.
e) The emergency brake level and/or cables and associated must remain functional.
f) Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) may be disabled.
g) Nissan Motorsports front brake cooling kit part # may be utilized.

However I don't think the Nissan Kit works all that well...Mr Kleeman what is your experience with this kit? Better than nothing at all?

Ah so there is a mention. I kept search on "duct" so I never found that.

Is this "kit" the one that was discussed here:
https://my350z.com/forum/autocross-r...rake-duct.html

We used those attached to NACA ducts in the undertray and it worked pretty well - better than routing tubing to the radiator opening. But I'd rather put holes in the front fascia a'la the RC ducts. I'm guessing the 350 has the same layout underneath as the 370, but the real benefit of the RC ducts' placement is that they're a straight shot right to the rotors - one 90 degree turn rather than a maze that twists and turns all over the place.

But to answer your question - yes they are better than nothing at all.

Frankly, not sure what they are since no part number is given in the rules or parts lists

However I assume they are the old "SCCA" duct kit...
