Default 6pt harness

looking into getting a set of 6pt harness when i install my kirk racing rollbar. it seems there's a significant difference in price between brands. What are the differences between brands that would explain the cost differences?

The cheapest 6pt camlock harness from SafeRacer is the G-Force one at around $155, where as a Schroth/Sparco costs well over $500? Just want to see if the extra money they cost have any justifications to it besides the brand. the G-force is FIA approved.

maybe the material is more superior? better quality?

oh if this has any relevance I'm only driving the car for open track/DE/AutoX, not some serious racing. My guess is for my level it shouldn't matter what harness I go with....... rite?

The difference is primarily the safety certification. SFI is good for two years. FIA is good for five. Crow sells good SFI rated harnesses for a reasonable price and you can send them in to get re certified every couple years. Nice people to work with.

The G force harnesses are good. The difference in price is exactly as stated before. In the long run you end up spending the same amount.

I think I've been sold on Safecraft my next time around for harnesses. Made in the USA, custom orders for no extra cost, and the really nice part is even though they're only SFI certified they give you one free reweb to make up for it.

Should note most if not all HPDE's don't care if it's SFI or FIA certified or expired.

I did a search and it seems like SFI standards is US recognized, and FIA standards is globally recognized

SFI is subordinate to FIA. A FIA approved harness is also SFI approved for 5 years - in the eyes of SCCA, NASA, etc..

That is already changing. If you are running non-OEM belts most HPDE organizations are starting to require current SFI or FIA certifications. This is mandated by the tracks and/or sanctioning body liability insurance. Its a direct result of the Porsche Carrera GT/Ferrari multiple fatality at Cal Speedway a few years ago.

Default hardware

So I'm going to go with the G-Force unit:

http://www.saferacer.com/g-force-pro...amlock-harness

couple questions before I make the purchase. What type of shoulder harness should I get? They have individual, H-type, and V-type. it'll be mounted to the harness bar. I'm thinking it should be the individual type but want to make sure this is correct. SR doesn't let me select the type, will it come with all 3 types?

another question is what kinda hardware will i need? Here's what I think I need, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Shoulders: nothing, just loop around the bar?
Lab belts: 2x 20mm eye bolts mounted to the rear seat mount
Anti-sub: 2x 50mm eye bolts mounted to the floor with backing plates.

Is that it?

Thanks for your help!

The belts should come with the hardware you need (excluding the backing plates) at least the two I had ordered (takata and schroth) both did. Shameless plug, I am selling a brand new schroth pro-fi 2 red. It's a 2013 belt. Pm if interested.

Lap belts, forgot what the bolts are but they are available. Just not from saferacer.

Sub belts, all i can say is have fun. What a freaking pain in the *** to install. 5 point sucked, i really think running a 6 point would be ever more of a pita to install.

Shoulders, yes they should just wrap around the harness bar of your rollbar.

http://www.gforce.com/pdf/Harness_Install_Info.pdf good place to start reading.

Since your posting in the autocross and roadcourse section, i will mention you probably do not want an H or Y back harness.

You can reuse the points of the lap belts for your anti sub and just sit on the crotch strap for 6 points if you dont wanna install the bottom hardware.
