I used to have a '99 FRC, that I (stupidly) sold just before the non-Z06 C5s got moved to AS. I mostly ran NCCC since I didn't have to run against the Z06s (and the local NCCC had a killer site at the time, too). Really wish I'd have kept the thing for another couple years until they made the jump to AS.
As for ST, I think it'll be a real strong car, even without much prep. It's not going to be entirely happy on 275s or 285s, but I didn't think mine was as bad on street tires as everyone seems to think. Yes, it liked the 275/305 stickies the best, but it did a surprisingly good job of putting power down on the 275 rear street tires, which were whatever was the hot Kumho street tire in '06-07.
My car weighed 3050 with a full tank. ST trim won't save much off of that, as the stock base seats aren't terribly heavy. With a tune an an exhaust I think I was around 315 to the wheels. The tune was only worth about 5hp as I recall.

Well I went to my first Champ tour at Texas A&M. Great weekend with a first place finish.

Some of the top STU TX talent has moved on to other cars so I think I got off a little easy!
Data showed I could have knocked off another 1.5 sec over the two days so plenty for me to work on.
Big thanks to Brian and Mike for posting up your thoughts and setups.
As far as the C5 goes-- Lane Borg threw down some awesome times in his BS vette. He ran in my heat and was on 275 RS3's. Even if you took off my 1.5 secs he's still way out there.
The course was fast and long so his tall gearing was not as much of an issue.
He's a very nice guy and great driver, he would be a top contender if he comes over for sure.

Not a bad first effort. I still think a C5 is "the" car for STU, but no one is building one. STU is pretty weak nation wide this year. It's a shame. If Thorne crushes me at Spring Nats, maybe I will try and bum an Evo and run STU at Nats. Who knows.

Thanks Mike and Lane. Lane the ER club is running an Autocross out at Mineral Wells on April 27. I'll be out there for sure. That would be close for you and your welcome to co drive or at least take a few runs in the Z to see what you think.
Just saw the San Diego tour results.. Congrats Brian!

thank you so much for sharing all of this info! i'm thinking of doing a mild build for STU and this thread has been invaluable to me. i am new to the Z and do plan to continue searching and researching, but if you can point me in the right directions i'd really appreciate it!
is there a write up somewhere or can you describe the modification necessary to get more camber on the kinetix arms?
found some good info on the old vs new hotchkis front sway (https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-...djustable.html), did you opt for the old version for any particular reason or was it just what was available to you at the time? in other words, is there any reason i'd want the old version over the new one?
where did you find megan rear perches? i can't seem to find those anywhere
are these the correct subframe bushings?
http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_..._number=W92994
and the correct diff bushings? you mentioned the subframe bushings made a huge difference. can the same be said about these diff bushings too or could i skip these?

----Not sure if there is a write up for the mod but its pretty easy. Just cut of a 1/4 in off the threaded tube where the jam nut seats for the spherical bearing. This allows a couple of more turns for the bearing and will give you the extra neg camber.

----I have the Stillen bars and only use the middle up front and the rear is disconnected. This is with 750 front and 525 rear spring rates. So you should be fine with either bar.

----Need to start looking around myself, I plan to check with BC also to see what they have.

---- Haven't done the subframe but all the other rear bushings are urethane and it made a noticeable difference in stiffness. You can hold off on the diff bushing till the large rear one starts to leak the silicone fluid. I didn't notice any big performance difference when I change mine other than more rear end noise.

thanks very much for the response! my goal is to basically just build a balanced car and work on the nut behind the wheel. my car came w/ HKS Hipermax RS on it (appears to be 448lbs front and rear) which sounds very far from ideal, but i'll try to make it work until after i get at least a quaife, wheels and tires, and front sway bar. i'm going to stick w/ STR spec tires (friend has a year old set of 255/40/17 rivals with only 2 events on them that he'll sell me for cheap) and find some 17x9-10s. the goal i guess is to balance the car for as cheaply as possible and work on myself after that. i'm thinking i will need to replace the coilovers and am considering those fortune auto 510s. some day down the line i'd love to do a serious build on this platform, but this is where i'm at for now and i really appreciate all of your guys' wisdom!
