What kind of engine oil you used on the track ??
Hi,
spring is here and i have to do a complet flush of fluid on my track car. I used to have a turbo sentra and oïl was really important on that car on the track....so do my 2003 350Z.
So, i have a lot of mileage on the car and engine (around 200 000km) and my engine will be replace next year (if not before
) and i'm still trying to find the right oïl for this car.
So what kind of oïl do you run on the track ? 5w30, 10w30, 0w40 ??? And what brand do you like ?
Did'nt like Amsoil and April !
Thanks alot,
Martin

5W30 is the only grade available near me in Amsoil. It had to have good oils ship from the USA...like almost all chimicals actually...and battery.

Eneos 5w30 - summer, Eneos 0w30 winter
Amsoil 5w30 summer, Amsoil 0w30 winter
Did multiple oil analysis with these two oils and they are nearly identical with slight edge to Amsoil,
Switching from mobil1 to amsoil my oil analysis showed that I reduced a significant amount of wear and tear metals in the engine oil - meaning that there is less internal friction and the engine will last much longer.

basically did 5.5k miles on amsoil, eneos, mobil1, 2 cycles each oil.
That was done on my stock HR with fujitsubo exhaust system w/ stock nissan filters.
Amsoil and Eneos were about the same, only slight difference in some common friction byproduct metals, really negligible.
I didn't even want to run mobil1 second time because of how horrid the first UOA came out, but I did it anyway for science sake.
This was all done in FL, over 2 years.
According to bobistheoilguy mobil1 basically is being cheap and not adding enough oil base friction modifiers, causing much less protection vs comparable synthetics.
I heard good things about castrol edge synth too tho.
-Lets face it though; even running mobil1 in your engine, one will most likely trade the car in/ move on before the engine gives out.
For me just knowing psychologically that I am running the good stuff that actually works (backed up by data) makes the drive that much more enjoyable.

For the last 2 years I have been running strictly Castrol Edge SPT 5w-40 in my 06 Z.
My car has 180,000km and runs great. During track conditions I didn't have any concerns over heating or oil pressure so it's doing something right. YMMV

Would it last a while? yes if you followed oil change intervals
Would it be good for your engine long term? Most likely not.
According to a recent NHTSA reprorts over 50% of the cars on the road in united states are either low on oil or haven't changed their oil in the past 2 years.
So really, as long as you put in a synthetic oil and you change it when its due... can't go wrong with any SAE certified oil.
It's just us gearheads who like to pamper our cars will put the best stuff in.... or at least I know I am.
from what i've researched a while back, i know someone from this forum sent different oils to the lab (blackstone?) for analysis. The conclusion was that M1 0w-40 is comparable to Amsoil (forgot the grade) and is readily available just about everywhere, but M1 5w-30 was horrible. So i take that as different grades performs differently even if it's made by the same manufacturer.
I've used M1 0w-40 ever since I bought it new. Still uses it now that the Z is being driven at the track almost exclusively.
