From Stance to Track - 06' 350z Log/Build
So, a couple of weeks ago, I picked up this 2006 white stanced 350z. I bought the car because it already had some upgrades on it and I got it for a decent deal.
When I got the car, it had:
XXR wheels
CXRacing Coilovers (I know, I know)
Grand Touring Brembo brakes
I bought the car because they can be excellent track cars. I came from a G37 that was getting way too expensive to track. I had a lot of fun with the G but wasn't really able to do much with the car.
So the fun begins. Currently, I have only done a few things to the car. Working on it non-stop for the first track day June 28th at Putnam Motorsports park.
First modification was raising the car. I went to raise the car up and got the fronts a little too high, but way better than hitting everything. Well, when I went to raise the rear, I figured out the rear perches are missing to raise the rear. So it is currently in perma-launch mode (AKA Tennessee Tilt) until I get the perches.
Next modification was brakes all around. So I got an amazing deal on a Rotora Big Brake Kit. An unbelievable deal, actually. Lets just say, after selling the Brembo brakes, I only ended up paying $130. I know I don't NEED these big brakes, but for $130, I wasn't passing the deal up. So anyways - I got them and ordered some H6 pads for the track.
Next thing I bought was some Enkei wheels from a member on here. They came with NT01s and those should be great for the track day! I am used to RE11s but I tend to over-drive them. I managed to roll the sidewall and chunk the front tires with the G.
Next, I took a day and went to a friends house with a lift. I was able to do the following:
- Replace O2 sensor (CEL for bank 1 O2)
- Change diff fluid with Redline 75w 90
- Change Transmission Fluid with Redline MT90
- Install Zspeed aluminum undertray
- Remove dust shields (they were rubbing the rotors)
So now all of that is done. I have pieced together an oil cooler using all Aeroquip stuff that I will update later on. It should be good!
As far as other needed things - I need to get fender liners. They are missing from the car. I also need some upper control arms, diff bushings, and a few other misc. things. I will keep updating the thread as time goes on.
I am including all pics that I have taken at the bottom of this post, along with video from me in the G37 with my fastest lap from Putnam Motorsports Park.
I am open to all suggestions, so please feel free to chime in. Sorry for the Wall-o-text.

Cool, and let's see a pic of the rear coilover setup .

Depending on size of the rear coils, you can call BC Racing and get the adjustable perches. I would recommend a good oil and power steering cooler if you plan to track. I've had good life and grip from the Yoko AD08's. The wider the better on the front. Front sway bar on a med setting wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Haha, I don't think you really want to see that. When I get the perches from her, I will snap a picture. It is sad, honestly - but it will work for now. I would like to feel the car out before I switch over to KW V3s.
I am actually getting the perches from the previous owner, I just need to go get them.
As far as the oil cooler, it is on the way. I opted for a 25 row. Power Steering cooler will be on the way shortly. Definitely need to pick one up before the track day - especially running NT01s.
I will have to try out the Yoko's. I have a 255 up front and a 275 in the rear (on my RE-11s) - hopefully that will be enough.
Front and rear sway bars will be for the next event. Working to get everything installed for this event at the moment. Almost there!

Good question. Definitely something adjustable. Haven't really looked into it. Taking suggestions.
Car was junk - slowly transforming :P. TRACK DAY BRO. Where is your build thread Z-bruh?
Haha, not going to part with that at this time. Not to mention it has been on a curb once or twice.

Thanks!
I already bought wheels and tires.
As far as the Brembos, they are actually not good enough for my application. Hell, I managed to boil ATE Superblue fluid in Akebono calipers with Carbotech XP10 pads on street tires. The problem with the Brembos is they use a small rotor that retains a lot of heat.
The point of switching to the Z was really so I could have more spare money for track days and build a track car that will perform well instead of sticking with a stock car.

Good stuff, I like to see people actually use their cars for more than hard parking, definitely in for more!
Lol also sounds a lot like me with the rotora brakes except I made $300 by switching from brembo's

I am glad this car is getting the attention from me. Little does it know it is in for a long hard life! I am sure it will be able to take the heat, though.
That's pretty much my exact thought. If that car were any lower it wouldn't have anything underneath it.

Just a little boring update - no pictures as of now.
I ended up ordering a few things:
- 25 Row Oil Cooler Core
- Aeroquip Socketless hose
- 4x Aeroquip Socketless Hose 90* -10AN fittings
- Rotora H6 Racing brake pads (they're gold of all colors!)
- Prosport Oil Temp setup
- Prosport Oil Pressure setup
- Front adjustable Upper Control Arms
- Beck Arnley front sway bar end link
- ARP extended studs (for the rear wheels to clear the big brakes with a 10mm spacer)
- Harbor Freight tire trailer (or at least what will become one)
- Front right and left fender liners
I think that is it at the moment. I am planning on getting some good work in tonight. Hopefully I can get a lot accomplished.

Thanks man!
I mounted the sensor in the sandwich plate (see pictures). I have it monitoring post-oil cooler temperatures as I have an oil pressure sensor on the other side.
I got a little bit done in the past couple days. I managed to get the oil cooler installed and lines made for it. I still need to make some brackets for it, but for the moment, it is fine. Fortunately I had good luck and there were no leaks to report. At the same time, I mounted both oil pressure and oil temperature sending units to the sandwich plate. They have been teflon taped and didn't leak a single drop - very happy about that.
Last night, I was able to put both rear perches in. I set them to a pretty general height - I think. I haven't put the car back on the ground to find out just yet. I guess only time will tell. Side note - does anyone know if you are supposed to leave the rubber part at the top? I don't have any instructions with these things and am used to the real coilover style. If they are wrong - someone please pitch in and I will simply remove them.
I was also able to install 1 side of my rear ARP studs. What a pain in the ***. I have had a bad experience with drum brakes so I am a little gun shy to work on mine! Anyways - I believe everything went back in correctly, but man - what a PAIN! Glad I only have one side left to do and have a feeling it will go much quicker.
Hopefully tonight I will be able to get the other rear studs on, wire up the gauges, and MAYBE get the front upper control arms on. We will see about all of that. Taking this one step at a time! Makes me happy I have a daily driver.
More updates to come.

I have used 3 of these now (1x Toyota Supra Turbo, 1x G37, and 1x 350z) and they have all been perfect. I make sure to teflon tape the fittings and they work out very well. Decent parts, honestly.
