Default C-Street tire suggestions

I have a 2003 Track model, but with the Anniversary rims (18x8F, 18x8.5R). I am looking for suggestions on what size(s) I could run. I haven't found much help regarding C-Street, as most of the other threads on here are regarding STU or BSP.

I have 1 year of Solo experience and last year I had bigger rims (18x8.5F, 18x9.5R) and a CAI. I found a stock airbox and put that back in, so I can run in the Street class. I used 245/40 and 265/40 RS3's last year.

I've had it suggested to use those same sizes on the stock size rims. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat except I have an 06 GT with bigger wheels and I have 15 years of autocross experience. the RS3 V2's I believe are back ordered right now. I ran the old RS3's and was very impressed with them, they felt very sharp and grippy but when cold or wet they suffered. I ran Z2's on an ES miata last year and they are a better compromise tire in that they do not supper so much in the cold or wet while being a bit vague and dull compared to the RS3's. The Rivals are supposed to be the fastest of the street tires at last check but they don't seem to age well. They are all 3 great tires and in optimal conditions they shouldn't be more than a couple of tenths off one another, those early season cold events and occasional wet events is why I chose the Z2's last year.

Fitment is the thing I'm wrestling with, the rules for street do allow for up or down sizing 1" in diameter (width and offset must remain stock) which would give me more tire choices out back

I really like the RS3's. I don't have much to compare to as I haven't used any others, but it seems to be popular with a lot of the drivers in my area. I felt like I had great grip in a variety of conditions (90's, 60's, standing water and damp).

It seems going with 245/40 and 265/40 on the 8" and 8.5" wheels is a general consensus from several people. I'll go with that. If only I could afford some rims that were like 8-10 lbs lighter....

Just checked tirerack and the kooks are still backordered until 4/30 so unless you have a different source you won't be running the rs3's unless you are running last years tires. If you go Z2's they are in stock and you might be able to get away with 255's up front and 275's out back. I seem to recall someone was running 265 front and 285 or 295 rears a few years back. Hate to find out the hard way that they rub. also nice to keep it at 285's in case one decides to step into STU.

Yea, I saw the back order date. Since I already have the 245/40 and 265/40 from last season, I think I'm just going to get them mounted on the Anniversary rims. I ran 5 solo events, so like 30-35 runs, plus 110 laps at Watkins Glen in a HPDE. They obviously have some wear, but they look in good shape still. It's not like I'm going to any National events this year (maybe next), just doing local events and no HPDE this year. If I have troubles, I can get a new set when they aren't back ordered.

Maybe I'll consider getting a single exit exhaust and save like 45 pounds.

Found an old thread on scca forums. Looks like the 285's fit the V1 track wheels (same width as you) running 285 A6's all the way around. I'd say that is the extreme fit and not worth doing as you won't be able to use the whole tire. If your tires for last year have some meat left certainly nothing wrong with using them up.

I however will need to get tires before the first event in march. so the backorder kinda puts the Kooks out for me. The BFG's have the 285 for my rear but they don't have much for the 18, I'd be stuck with the 245 and that pairing sounds like it'll make the understeer worse. Currently thinking Z2 275 35 19 rear and 265 35 18's up front. hoping this combo clears and the similar tread width will keep the push to a minimum.

I do plan to add the hotchkis front bar preseason, I'll see how bad it handles with the tired stock shocks before I bother going down that rabbithole.

I'm in the same situation regarding shocks. I too have the Hotchkis front swaybar to put on before the season starts. I think I'll end up getting some Koni Yellow's (like everyone else) next year. My Z has nearly 180k on it, so they are very tired...

I don't know what size is stock on your car, but this is a good website to compare stock tire specs to new rims or tires. It tells you the difference in speed compared to 60 mph too. My problem I found with going to an aspect ration of 35 is that it put my top speed in 2nd gear to 59 mph. Stock 45 is 64 and 40 was 62.

I'm only at 165k. I figure I'll be going tnt koni route as well just trying to spread out the spending. Sadly decent coil overs aren't a lot more money but it does open up pandora box for additional spending.

I ran 285 Kumho V710s and 295 Hoosier A6s all the way around until the switch to non-DOT-R tires. I used the entire tread width both front and rear and could get two solid seasons out of the Hoosiers (three on the V710s, but they were slower).

Now I've run the Direzza Z2s in 255/275s. They work OK but overheat pretty easily. The problem is that there currently isn't a good size that is larger, but I'll probably go to the RS-3s in 265/275 or 265/285.

Your 05 track is 8" front and 8.5" rears right? What shocks do you run? Sway bar? Exhaust?

Stock track wheels - 18x8F/18x8.5R

I'm running Koni double-adjustable shocks, which I had "upgraded" from Koni Sports (Yellows).

Replaced front 34mm solid bar with the Hotchkis 34mm hollow front bar.

Stock exhaust. The advantage: I can run at ¼-⅜ tank without wheelspin -- as opposed to everyone else who has replaced the exhaust, requiring a full tank to reduce wheelspin.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the stock Track rims and the Anniversary rims? Other than the huge weight difference. Both are 18x8 and 18x8.5. Is there another difference that would cause you to not be able to use the same width tire?

I hadn't considered the weight loss with a lighter exhaust as a negative. Although, I would think that it shouldn't be such a large difference in fuel to make that up. A gallon of fuel is in the 6 lb/gallon range, so I'd think only 6-7 gallons (1/3 tank) would make up the difference. Either way, it's something else to consider.

Looks like they are the same spec
http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/350...ion-guide.html

I don't see me springing the extra cash for the double adjustables, just doubles the chance of me adjusting them wrong I do plan to get the konis but tires are first up.

I had wondered about the fuel situation, with the miata you could run dang near empty.

I guess I'm a little late to this thread, just got my Z about a week ago. First auto-x at NCM yesterday on 550 treadwear all-seasons Fun, but not fast.

I have an '06 Enthusiast, 8" front and 8.5" rear, running C-street. Right now I'm looking at RPF1's in 18x8 +35 and 18x8.5 +30 with RS-3's in 225/40ZR18 and 235/40ZR18. What's everyone's opinion on that setup?

From what I've read here, it looks like everyone is running much wider tires, so I just want to explain my reasoning real quick... Last year running STF in my 2005 Scion tC, I had good luck with 215/45/17 on 17x8's. I think a little stretch made for sharper turn-in and less sidewall flex on my BFG Rivals. This is an interesting case for smaller tires:

Also, has anyone tried or seen a 17" setup? Not sure if about pros/cons.

I'm a fan or running as much tire as you can fit, I'm running 275's out back and 265 up front. I'm also a fan of squaring up as much as possible. If I was running the V1 wheels I'd probably try running 265's all around, might be a bit much for the 8" wheel but even if you limited it yo 255 or 245 I'd go square with the tires.

I just ordered a set of R-S3's in 235/40 front and 235/45 rear. Basically splitting the difference of the factory sizes for a square setup (8" front and 8.5" rear wheels). And the 235/45's were on closeout at $142 each! We'll see how it goes.

Wow, I just discovered I chunked a sidewall on road debris or something and have to replace a rear 275, at $305. Ouch.
