The great thing about the ZII is the stiff sidewall, shorter tire height and bigger contact patch. The RE71r is only faster by virtue that its noticeably "sticky" in comparison. Also with your car only halfway prepped for STU I think your on the right tire. Also you need more camber Kinetix arms are like 250$ plus the cost of modifying them if you cant do it yourself.

PS - i run 3deg up front and i will probably put 6-8k miles on my car this year street driving. I still have my stock wheels I roll around with if I plan to drive a lot in between racing. Even still i wouldnt be too scared of running that much. The toe setting is what wears the tire faster. If your running zero toe up front i wouldnt worry about it. Just rotate tires often.
I was just looking at these RE71r in the SCCA magazine over the weekend... Maybe they'll be in my future one day when the car requires the grip. The Kinetix arms will have to go to the top of the list now How often do you think I should be rotating my tires?

If your car is level and you have that much cross-camber, I would check the bushings up front. (A less-likely culprit is a bent control arm or something)
Ok, this is what I thought you meant but just had to be sure. I made final adjustments to my heights just before my alignment and took the car to a gas station to measure the heights (hoping that the concrete there was pretty level). Up front I have about 3/8" difference and in the rear probably about 1/8" difference in height. I have a slight rake on the car, if it is important I can measure again when I get home. Those lower control arm bushings are on my list to replace, they're not terrible but starting to be on their way out.

I'm using Harry's Lap Timer, there's a couple of versions and I think I'm using the middle grade. Also a wifi OBDII reader to sync up with the app. That is where you get the throttle input, RPMs, gearing, etc...

If I ran a square setup I'd rotate tires after every event.

Default Front splitter and rear spoiler

Guys,

I've been looking at adding a front splitter and possibly a rear spoiler to the car. Can someone please confirm/dispute my understanding of the rule found in the SCCA rule book? The way I read this is that I am not allowed to add an aftermarket splitter/spoiler unless it is specifically OEM style, and also not NISMO. Meaning I may not have a custom made splitter, Stillen splitter, APR splitter etc...? How about aftermarket front lips?

A splitter that goes beyond the outermost point of the front bumper bumps you all the way to SSM (and it is actually not legal for FP either).

Bummer... Thanks for the input gentlemen. Guess that just leaves extra $$$ for suspension upgrades, HFCs and a tune

Guys here in AZ are saying great things about the RE-71R (compared to their previous RS-3's).

I second the Kinetix arms. Here's a pic of the mod - very easy with an angle grinder.

Thanks for the thread....subscribed.

So basically all I'm seeing is a quarter inch off that right side there? Doesn't look too difficult . Glad you enjoy the thread, thanks for subscribing!

Default Drier than California

Unfortunately there has been a bit of a lull in the autocross schedule for the past few/next few weeks, should be at it again early June! In the meantime, one more shot from the event in Frackville. Glad to see I was staying nice and tight

I hope you can make it down to the Philly Solo events. Would be nice to see another Z in STU, currently I'm the only one and less then a handful of Z overall.

Just a quick update, I haven't been able to race lately due to other commitments (girlfriend's birthday, golf tournament, etc...). Last Friday a nasty grinding sound started coming from my rear passenger side wheel. It only happens when the car is rolling, and does not begin right away for example when I am backing out of the driveway. Once the car starts moving forward it begins and frequency increases with speed. I'm currently traveling for work and will try to get a video of it when I get home.

I'm pretty sure I canceled out a bad wheel bearing as I listened to what that sounds like online and my noise is not similar. My thought is possibly something with the brakes. I also recently put rear spacers on and I'm hoping that didn't screw anything up; you never know... If anyone has an idea from my vague description I'd love to hear it!

Hopefully back to racing in a week or two!

Could be your parking brake. Something could have broke or came off.

Missed a good STU turnout at the Wells Fargo Center.

Default 06/20/15 Wells Fargo Center

This past weekend I struggled a little bit. The course was challenging with some very fast sections followed by sections where you had to be very patient. My first run was the fastest with a 52.898. From there on I was unable to reach/beat that time again. I feel I over-drove the car quite a bit, evidence by the spin in my second run which up until the spin I feel was going to be very fast. Over-driving led to poor lines and wasting too much time correcting mistakes. Ended up finishing 4 out of 5 in STU, 59 our of 124 PAX, and 48 out of 124 RAW. As always, please feel free to give any comments/constructive feedback!

Location: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA
Weather: Hot/humid, 86 F
Race surface: Paved asphalt
Course map:My AutoX Journal-fullsizerender.jpg
Tire pressures: 32/34 F/R (hot)
Times: 52.898
73.303 (spin)
53.053
52.996
53.350

Unfortunately my video did not record for my first (fastest) lap, so I only have video of my second fastest lap 52.996.

Default 07/05/15 Mohegan Sun Arena

I'm a bit late in posting this up, but here it is! Autocross at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre a few weeks ago. A bit disappointed that I was unable to continue improving on my times over the day, so any comments/tips are welcome! Finished 27/61 in raw times and 25/61 in PAX. I think I have the tire pressures figured out on the Direzza ZIIs, what are you guys typically running at?

Location: Mohegan Sun Arena, Wilkes-Barre, PA
Weather: Sunny, 83 F
Surface: Paved, very dusty
Course Map:My AutoX Journal-img_1263.png
Tire pressures: 33psi hot, all around
Times: 74.296 +DNF
68.488
67.265
66.674- interestingly enough on cold tires
67.159
70.175- car got a little unsettled and ended up doing some drifting

Video of my fastest lap

Not to beat a dead horse, but the 2 statements are contradictory. I would say a Nismo v3 bumper is allowed since it came as a factory option and not something that is a catalog part. just because it carried the Nismo name does not mean it was a Nismo catalog item.
