This weekend the SR20VE top end was disassembled, and damage confirmed. #1 and #4 cylinders took the heaviest damage and from this photo you may be able to see damage to the top of those pistons. Worse yet, I managed to slice open my left hand on a part of the oil cooler mount when I slipped. Urgent care was not part of this plan, and never let the racecar bite you!
Oh that sucks big time. I’m not familiar with those engines, so I wonder where the crack is internally, if the cylinder bore wasn’t damaged that may be able to be fixed…..need more teardown.

While I haven't yet pulled down the shortblock, if you look closely at the photo posted here, you'll see the block is cracked just under the #1 cylinder crankcase area. The crack not only vented the block and crankcase in this area, the also put a 1 x 2" hole in the drysump oil pan. Of course, we'll finish the disassembly, but looking at the damage so far, there's little doubt the shortblack and crank will be catastrophically damaged. Rebuilt? Not likely, although I hope some parts might be salvagable.
September update: still no joy on the GT3 Z, as there's just so much damage to repair. The SR20VE bottom end is so trashed, and SCCA rules have not yet stabilized enough to commit to building a SR20VET. Lots of work ahead on this project and I admit the gumption level has been low.
But the news on the Touring 3 Z has been better, and after exhaustive diagnostic work, it's back up and running! A lot of rewiring work by our local Nissan guru, Allen ***, repaired some internal shorts in the main wiring harness. This required his particular expertise in tracking down exactly where to replace certain parts of the harness and test them. The Z finished third in the last Majors race in RMDiv in the hands of Ian Sullivan (who I'm sponsoring this season) and I'll be entering it at the American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) at Road Atlanta to get at least one race in this season.

So good to see the T3 back up and running!! Felt helpless that there wasn't anything I could do, physically nor mentally. And even if I was there, I hate harness work! With a passion.
Thanks for sharing the pictures. I like it.I appreciate you sharing the photos. I enjoy it. I followed your advice. When I was looking for the website www.topessaywriting.org/samples/loneliness internet, I also came across your post, which is where I discovered my solution.

Sorry to report that I've withdrawn my ARRC entry for next month. My problems are numerous. First, I've been elected as the regional Exec (RE) for my home region in SCCA and have contracts and other work to complete in Colorado. Next, the bucks I'd spend for this race are better used trying to repair the GT3 car and with many, many other race and street projects I've neglected. Finally, some personal and family things have come up in the same timeframe (don't they always?) and I need some extra time.
I know, I know- boring reasons that make way too much sense than going racing. Where the hell are my priorities?
It may be hard to see, but #1 rod has exploded the big end, with part of the rod cap being stuck between the crank journal and the block. Catastrophic failures on #1 and #4 cylinders.
