New Kirk ZRoll Bar is great
New Kirk Roll Bar for Z is great!
The great folks at Kirk Racing were wonderful to work with to design and install a new roll bar design for the Z. The new model is made for HPDE and road rally events where 2 persons will be in the car.
It does not dramatically decrease passenger seat travel as does their other (first) model that is made for more single driver protection. The new model only stops the rear hinge of each seat a width of the bar, and allows for full seat back recline. There is very little loss of storage space with the bar design. Those with side air bags will find it is a snug fit, but not a real problem. We use soft bag luggage and we noticed no loss in space with the bar in place.
The side of the bar is slightly exposed when the door is opened. They could have put a bend in the bar to more closely follow the B pillar, but that would put a bend in the main vertical bar that would weaken the total bar design. The straighter bar also puts the top of the roll bar closer over your head, which the folks at Kirk Racing pointed out, is why you have a roll bar. All back of seat compartments are accessible. I popped a nice little black Naugahide bar cover (padded) from JC Whitney on the bar and it
look pretty good. I will post some pics soon of the install with the belt attachmented to the mid belt bar. Just need some more bar cover cord to finish the job.
Kirk Racing (kirkracing.com) took pics of the finished bar and said they would get them up to be able to send to you Z owners. They are wonderful folks to work with and I would especially suggest all Z Drivers come down to Birmingham to do a HPDE at the new Barber Motorsports Park, and have Kirk pop a roll bar in your Z. We had 3 Z’s at the PCA DE last weekend. It is the most beautiful racetrack I have ever seen, and a great track to drive on.
I was a full price roll bar customer and offer this positive endorsement for the Kirk roll bar without any compensation. George Bush did not pay for my roll bar!!!
Oh yeah, it also comes in sections for ease of shipping and "your shop install".
Nice product and I apprecite Kirk working with a cutomer for a new product. Thanks Kirk Racing!
