Just called and placed an order today for a set of HP shocks. Perfect timing too. Worked on my car yesterday and the hatch slammed shut about 5 times.

Extremely easy install. So happy with them. Got the HP's. I can't imagine what the UHP ones are like. Pretty sure I'll never have to worry about my hatch falling on my head anymore!

after installing these the hatch requires that i open it twice with the button to actually open. the first bump unlocks it but the latch is still hooked. any one else with this issue?

I've always had to do that. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's an issue with the spring popper things next to the struts.

That's correct, it's the rear hatch bumper that kicks the rear hatch up enough to disengage when hitting the unlock button. I'm pretty sure there is a thread on that. (Z1 sells those too)

I also just got the Z1 struts and installed them today. I must be the unlucky guy. I could not get the upper ball stud removed from the hatch. The open end wrench was damaging the hex. I used a cut-off grinding wheel to cut off the upper ball. I could then get a 6-point socket on the remaining stud and it loosened with no problem. If others have the same issue, PM me and I can send some pictures.

I'm having the same issue. My wrench is rounding off the bolt because of the tight angle. Anyone know of a speciality tool to get at this bolt?

I had the same thing happen. Just used pliers with some nice teeth on them. Wasn't too concerned with damaging it since I happily tossed it in the garbage roughly 30 seconds after I took it off.
