Talking LED's in the Door Handle's. (56k Maybe)

::mods:: please don't move this thread. the "Lighting section is pretty dead. lol

i got bored and thought this might be a nifty idea. not sure if anyone has done this before. turns out, its now one of my favorite things on the car now! they turn on anytime the interior dome lights come on. anytime i unlock the car, they come on. it adds a very nice touch. the LED's are flush against the handle. since i used clear epoxy to secure the LEDs, the light bleeds through to the back of the handle and illuminates the inside. very very nice. i love it. here's some pics. they don't look too bright, but each LED is 12000mcd. if you look straight at them anytime at night within their focus angle, they will leave spots for a few minutes.

here is a pic of my shadow against the house with the lights behind me. nothing else is on but the 3 LED's. the pictures dont do this mod justice. i have a crappy camera. sorry.

Id pay for someone to do this. Would be tricky to make a business or money with the mod.

did you replace your interior lamp bulbs also? and with the door handly leds - do you feel them with your hand when you open the door? if so could anything easily be broken?

those are pretty neat. i think they would really help when looking for the door handel in the dark. add those to an under seat lighting system and you would have a pretty good combo.

can we see a shot of those side markers. How many Led's are in those. I always wanted someone to make the LIMO lights and put them on the side markers.

So the side markers would glow without the accent's of little dots.

i like the idea, but it would be too much while driving i think.... kinda like those ricey hood lights that are on the water squirters for the windshield....

i think when you press your unlock button on your key they should light up just like your interior light... then when u close the door the lights dim out just like the over head interior light....but while driving if those lights were on i would personally make fun of them...

just my .02

Don't like them.

I'd be worried if the cops pulled me over. They look very bright.

Awesome!

I'll leave it here for a while since I planned on doing this also, just not with LED's that bright.

Write-up a how-to and i'll sticky it.

Default Led Door Handle

Here's mine had them for about a year now , they are Amber to match the turning signal , so the police dont' bother me also they are on a relay so they flash opposite the turn signal , good mod gives a nice touch at night

the only time the lights are on, is when the dome light in on. (when the door is open, or after being unlocked) thats it. never while driving. so no problem with cops either. haha. the LED's are your standard size 5mm LED. turns out, that is the perfect size for the small holes in the handles.

you CAN feel the LEDs, but i put enough epoxy around and covering them to where all you feel 3 rubber humps. you can feel the wires that run inbetween each LED, but you have to put your fingers all the way in the handle. if you ever think about it, most people, including me, open our handle with the tips of only 2~3 fingers. so no issue there.

nis350- i will compile some pics today and try to post a write up in a couple of hours. stay tuned.

shimz- if you want info on my sidemarkers, go here. all the pics you could want.

mapleleaf - thoughs are nice. nice job on the relay for the turn signal. good idea. i just felt that with my sidemarkers having 84 freakin LEDs, that was plenty for letting people know i was turning.

How is it rice? It only comes on when the dome light is on, when doors are open or after being unlocked.

nis- just let the hater's hate. he's just pissed he'd never be able to have this is on his car without paying someone to do it for him.
