DIY License Plate Light Change
I didnt see a DIY on this easy upgrade, so I decided to post my own.
Tools required:
Flat-head screwdriver
Two (2) LED Bulbs
Windex
Papertowels
Time Required:
10 minutes
Ease of Install:
Very Easy
Grab your flat screwdriver and stick it on the right side of the lamp. You will see a clip on that side. Using the screwdriver, pry it out of the hatch. (See Fig 1 & 2)
Once you have it out, notice all the dust on mine. (See Fig 3)
Twist the harness out of the housing counter-clockwise. (See Fig 4)
Once out, pull the old bulb out, and replace with a new bulb of your choice.
Now you can clean your housings. Yours may or may not look at bad as mine did, but at this point I grabbed some Windex and cleaned them.
Push the housings back in with the new bulbs installed, and hit the lights. (See Fig 5)

Are you guys serious? That is insane. I have a buddy who is a cop, and asked him about blue lighting on cars a couple years back. He told me that as long as it was not a flashing light, or a light directed towards drivers, it would be acceptable. I have had the same type of plate lights, and also blue reverse lights on my various cars for the past 3 or so years. Never had a problem with either, although it would be near impossible to get in trouble for reverse lights being blue - what are the chances....?
But anywho, I guess the moral of the story was the difference ANY colour would make doing the change. Hell, you could always just put the bright white in there....you would still notice a drastic difference.

I'd be real careful on attracting unwanted attention.
Sure sounds like a great reason for a cop to pull you over and poke around. I would suspect that there's a minimum amount of light required by the lights and that blue ones aren't going to be nearly as bright and are sure to attract the unwanted attention of the police.

I did this light change with the whitish/slightly blue LEDs and it looks really good. It matches my HID headlights and it looks much better than the OEM yellow bulbs.
I should also note that my light covers were dirty as sin too... so the windex is a nice touch.

Nice write up. I got those replaced with white led bulbs the first day I got my car. They're much dimmer than stock bulb which is a plus
