DIY: Custom Black Sun Visors

I was bored tonight so I decided to paint my visors black, since Nissan does not offer them.. It is relatively easy to do..

First you will need some Dupli-Color Fabric & Vinyl paint.. Auto Zone $5 and some Paint Prep cleaner.. $5.. This is used to take all Oil and stuff off the area to be painted..

You can either mask off the labels on the visors or just paint over them. The long sun blocker piece will pull out of the visor with little effort.

The Mirrors are held into place by two small pressure clips that can be pushed up by a small flat head screw driver..

After everything is disassembled, Clean it with the cleaner, (except for material) (Plastic only) and apply one or two light coats of paint.. Apply several coats till you are happy with the color and then paint all the plastic accessories..

The accessories will be easy to paint.

Once everything is painted and dried, Reassemble and install back into the car..

Final product..

Can you do the headliner the same way? I hate the way the gray on top looks.

JasonZ-YA 02-13-2007 11:42 PM

you'll be surprised when you get the headliner out how thin it is, you can almost see right through it. it would also be a good time to put some dynomat on the roof also.

Voboy 02-14-2007 02:12 PM

man my DIY went wrong when advanced auto parts labeled flat black with gloss black...
my first can was gloss, 2nd can flat, 3rd can flat... results = hideous... but im too lazy to fix it up.

btw if you do this becareful when popping out the mirrors.

kwiker 02-14-2007 02:17 PM

Come on pesci...get that headliner done and post up.

BhashaZ 02-14-2007 02:18 PM

How many cans of fabric paint would be required to do the entire headliner plus the visors?
