Default Diy Drl

lol i was about to pay Nissan 450$ to do it since i didn't trust canadian tire, but when i told my dad he told me he could do it for 5$ ( he is an electrical engineer )

here is what we did, i passed a wire from the front headlight (parking light) to a relay, next i found a fuse that turns on when i start the car and turns off when i shutdown the car, next i connected everything to the relay, now when i turn on the car the parking and rear lights turn on,

if u need detailed info you can pm and i can send u pics if u really need them ( btw the way it is a VERY CLEAN job you dont see any wires nothing!!! i can take pics i guess of how its done.

relay has 4 wires ;

+ batt ---------- to relay
- batt ---------- to relay
parking light wire ---- to relay
wire from fuse box ---- to relay

VOILA

when i passed my inspection for quebec the guy was impressed on how clean it was done

well i hope this cover everything (sorry for the messy writing i just got back home from a long day!)

Man this is a great write up, too bad its about 2 months to late for me, I tried to install a kit on my 07, had everything apart, but couldn't figure out the wires, so I got nissan to install it for me for $350.

I just got scared with messing around with that Bi-xeon headlight... and this way I figure I'd have some warranty on them...

I don't think it would be that hard either, just not too great with electrical stuff...

Some good info for Canadians.

Cheers,

Question

I thought all vehicles sold in Canada were mandated by the gov't to have DRLs.

Did Nissan just disregard? Or did y'all buy outside Canada?

Just curious . . .

Yes they do, but importing cars from the States to Canada is very popular now with the really strong Canadian dollar. We must add DRL's to the car to have them pass certification.

D aytime R unning L ights , lol

DRL is a lamp used to improve the visibilityy of a vehicle when a vehicle is viewed from the front in daylight. The purpose of DRLs is to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle to all traffic and do it more efficiently than the vehicles' own headlight system

in other words your parking lights are always on

Basically its the high beems at 50% power to increase day time visibility. It has not been proven to reduce accidents, originally what it was touted for.

I will say I do notice cars on the road better and as soon as a car doesn't have them (one imported or somebody who has disabled them) i do find that car harder to seem, but then again, I notice the car because it doesn't have them as well...

I'd also appreciate pics. Specifically, where did you find the right wires?

I didn't want to mess with the stock wiring when I did my DRL's. I went to Princess Auto and got some cheap fog lights (just to pass federal) and installed them, also got a relay and ran it from winshield washer "low level" cuicuit fuse.

Works great.

What do you guys need pics for? It's just a relay with some wiring, very simple.
