Yea, if I can do it over again I would add a little "metallic flake" into the flat black. It gives a glittery (not Mariah Carey gay sort of way) but more like a pearl against a flat black color.

If you take apart your light, the large piece has a bit of black chromium color near the bottom. I want to try to emulate that but don't know how

Black chrome is very hard to replicate using paint. I've been trying as this was my original mission for my lights.

Closest product I found was a spray-on window tint directly on some spare chromed plastic emblems I have. Very close with only 2 light coats, but unsuccessful in making color uniform and smooth on surface. Could be my lack of skill on light even coats not sure. More than 2-3+ coats makes it more uniform in appearance, but results starts looking like black paint so no further point experimenting with that difficult technique/product.

Think I've seen clear 'pearl' top coat and believe satin black gives similar effect for your thought.

Anyway, I'll see how my color/metallic finish turn out and thanks again for your knowledge/replies.

Oh yeah, If you didnt know: '03-'05 cover fits exactly with the '06-'08's. When I bought the '06 headlights, the cover was stressed, so i swapped the cover out with my '03's and they fit exactly/perfectly.

Default Question

Have a question.
I also want to paint my 06 headlights. But I want to remove this"plastic glass with these points", which I painted red on the pictures.

Is it difficult to remove these, or is it just two "klicks" to remove.
Alex.

wow, holy pop-up ads on those pics. but anyway, when you remove the lens it comes off all at once. as for getting the lens without that area, you ould ahve to replace the entire cover with one from a 2003-2005 model light. no way to just remove that area

I don't know what you have to replace from the 03-05 headlights but I think the poster is saying "can I remove this clear plastic piece". If that's the question, then yes, you can remove it. It comes out quite easily after taking the headlight apart.

You don't need any parts from 03-05 to do this mod.

I just did my headlights over the weekend thanks for this DIY! I painted everything gloss black, even the projector housing that many people leave alone. I also found it helpful to keep the lights in there for about 11 minutes vs 8 minutes. It was easier for me to pry them open that way. I'll post pics in the next few days.
