Those looks great. Is the an extra strong clear coat/enamel you can use to protect the paint better from the machine? Something witht he strength of PC?

I'm going to check around. I just used Duplicolor clear coat for now.

Anyone else that wishes to replicate what I did, I used the following;

320 Grit sand paper

Duplicolor Self Etching Primer

Duplicolor Gold

Automotive polyurethane clear coat.

You'll have to use an actual spray gun... but the results are much better and the longevity will be there.

Can you recommend a good poly clear coat? Got the spray gun, just need to locate a good brand that will hold up.

I just just had the tire dismounted, sanded the rim down with 320 grit sand paper, then sprayed it with 3 coats of self etching primer, then put on 4 coats of paint. Let it stand for 24-48 hours, then mounted and balanced the tires on the machine at my shop.

Here they are with new Hankook Ventus H105's. They need cleaned, they are dusty and dirty. Been laying around until the tire shop got my tire order in. Tire machine didn't put a scratch on them when mounting the treads.

agree, seen it on cars up close and never seen anything that "wowed" me. And when it starts to chip and come off it looks very cheap. Don't know if it's worse to spray paint rims on a nice car or buy $8000 rims on a 80's bucket (regal) lol.

guys, does clear coat gives a glossy look too?? i'm looking for something that makes the rims more of glossier than semi-gloss.

My wheels, are a little banged up so I want to do this after repairing them. What's the closest matching paint to 06+ wheels? I know it won't be exact, but better than what I currently have.

That's what results from not doing it the right way. If you take your time and use a good primer to bond it to the metal like the self-etching, you more than likely will not have that problem. All the factory rims I've seen on here and on the street that are chipping and peeling usually reveal that the owner just spray painted them without sanding them down, prepping, or primering them since you can see the factory silver where it chips off. If you sand them down correctly, there is a layer of black primer underneath the factory silver coat, and that's where you want to sand it down to to get the best result and bonding of the metal and primer/paint.

I think it would be better to get them powder coated. It's done right and for $50 per wheel is quite the bargain.

hey guys, anyone tried to paint them dark bronze yet? I've read you need a layer of black on the bottom to make the bronze darker. anyone tried it?

also, the clear coat protects the paint, but it also makes it glossy.. anything to use to protect without the glossy effect?
