Default HOW TO: Upgrade from 03 to 06 taillights

Bought some new taillights for my Z off ebay got them for just $142.00 shipped wat a deal they are not oem they are aftermarket taillights but they fit perfect i only had to do one modification. They are a brand new pair of 20 led taillights that almost look exactly like the 2006 and up taillights but the difference is the oem taillights from the 2006 Z and up have 8 really big leds these taillights have 20 smaller leds. other than that the shapes inside are the same the dirrection the leds are pointing are the same an the side view of the leds is the sickest. below are some before an after pics an night pics the only trouble i had is the plastic cap that covers the bolt would not fit i shaved the inside of the hole where the cap hooks on an that was fixed not a major problem. INSTALL PART the pics below show two connectors (the big one) will be used the little one will NOT BE USED i just taped this off with black tape to prevent anything an tucked it away. The taillight comes with a size 7440 connector as you can see in the pics its a black connector all you have to do is from the old taillight remove the bulb socket from the taillight then remove the bulb an plug in the bulb socket back into the cars main harness (the big connector) then plug in the new taillights 7440 size connector in to the bulb socket. Basicly its like replacing a really big bulb thats it just a plug n play install. Oh i forgot to tell you how to take out the old taillight but you prob know already the easiest way is to pull away towards the side of the car not towards the back of the car. ALL in all im very happy these are super bright everything the original taillight did still works with these new taillights the only diff is these taillights look badass.

Sweet upgrade Dude. Nice find. I've check into replacing mine with 06 lights and the cost was not worth the upgrade, but at that price its well worth it now.

I checked google images and it looks like a stock 06+ had 8 holes for leds, whether theres 2 in each idk. Whats the best bet for finding oem ones for a decent price?

i had a problem with aftermaket led tail lights on my 03. They messed with the power consumption of other gadgets in the car and my car would not rev right while driving with them installed, the mechanic said i would need a resistor so for all the trouble they are not worth it...try to stomp on the gas guy and see if you see a difference with them installed...i could totally tell it was messing with something electrical when accelerating

I`m writing this because I bought a set of aftermarket LED taillights. Sorry I`m bringing up an old topic.
Be careful purchasing aftermarket LED taillights. It has been COMMONLY known to cause electrical problems.
I have a 03 touring. I had the following problems:

Cruise Control: Sometimes (random) it would cut off the cruise control by it self. Sometimes it would not allow the cruise control to be SET. Light would come on, and go right off when you let go of set button basically.

Acceleration Problems: It was kinda random too. but happened at least 75% of time. Accelerating through 1st-3rd gear, if not the others, the engine would lag through the acceleration pretty bad. Mine, along with others, more did it around 3500rpm and higher.

It has been stated else where that certain resistors will fix this problem.

I put my stock back in, and the problem went right away.

I've read more of aftermarket ones not working right and causing this problem then I have read that they do work correctly.

so BEWARE before purchasing.

If you buy off ebay, you can go through buyers protection. Take Videos/pictures of whatever you can to back up your problems. Ebay will make buyer return payment and you ship back lights.
