I'm going for dual brightness. I bought the 100mm Morimoto XbLED rings, but decided to also buy 90mm rings as well: I didn't like the uneven diffusion of the light with the 100mm rings alone: it lit too brightly the rear edge of the polished Ironman glyphs, but not as much forward. To solve that, I felt I needed to add more light lower down. For clarity, here's a pic with the 90mm LED HALO fitted inside the 100mm HALO mocked up with a couple of pieces of masking tape:

I've decided to punch up the OEM side marker slits in the OEM bezel; I'm going to use Morimoto 3" LED rigid strips to extend the lighting of the sides back into the housing. I'm using these:

I'm going to use 2 white ones mounted against the upper and lower clear lens opening, and also an amber strip mounted against the middle lens opening. They will be controlled by a switchback circuit: when the turn signal is activated, the HALOS will work, but the side white strips will shut off and the amber strip will blink in time with the turn signal.

I'm also going with 10mm auto slow changing RGB LEDs for a unique demon eye look - and I've mounted 4 of them: 2 drilled through the cut-off bowl and two facing backwards into the reflector bowl:

The effect is interesting and more diffused. The two firing forward each create very bright hot spots that reflect upward at about a 30° angle, and the two firing rear light up the lens evenly as the HID bulb does - but they're tucked in the pot metal housing enough to not melt when the headlights are on.

As I build these headlights, I'll post more pics. If anyone else does this, remember to black out (black RTV would be a good choice) the rear of the LEDs which fire forward, so that the HID bulb does not create stray shadows firing through the prism of the LED bulbs themselves.

Hi again.. Im the OP and the guy who created the thread and the initial 5 page write up etc lol.
All the CCFL is gone now.. using ZLEDS>COM LEDs.

OPs New Halo work... all 350z specific pcb items made by Sam Rios and Z LEDs. Labor was diy tho.

or together with the parking light... washes it to a red center and pink sides.. pretty frikin cool.. I also wired up a switch back for dual color top marker led ( 3 dots) so they turn red when the demon eyes are on.

these are all taken in a fully lit garage btw. They are very bright.. so the LUX on the camera automatically dimmed down to make sense of the light blurs lol. U can see the reflection of the energy saver bulb on the garge ceiling on the last pic.. i stress that this makes a HUGE difference in the light quality.. many set ups look great in pictures in dark rooms.. but this gear is LEGIT

Hey guys.. please excuse my ignorance per say but I need to have something clarified real quick..

I'm wanting to do the Demon Eye glow mod on my 04 base model z. I will be getting the Depo blacked out assemblies with the STIr lenses. I do like the Iron Man mod and from what I gathered, I need 100mm LED rings to do it if I wanted to. BUT... I just want the Demon Eye. So here's my question:

Do I need LED bulbs and drill them into the back of the cut-off bowl or can I get the same result with a red LED ring mounted on the inside of the lens?

the red leds on mine face the lens.. they mount like a halo inside the shroud but gain, are facing the glass.. the red glow you see popular is an led inside the bowl. its not too bright imo tho.. i opted for maximum impact w the Z Led ring

Gotcha. Thats what I want though, just the glow not too bright. one or two LEDs should suffice then I presume.

I'm still fiddling with this project (only work on it sporadically), but my opinion on the demon eyes is that the best place to install the LEDs is facing backwards towards the reflecting bowl. The bowl diffuses the LED glare perfectly, and eliminates hot spots. I'm firing 4-10mm RGB LEDs backwards into the bowl and it is creating the best and brightest glow. I'll post pics eventually.

@ OP - BMCCANN101

Do you still have the same DEPO lenses? I am curious how they held up now 3 years later. Mine original Nissan lenses needs replacing. Very glad I found your threads, I didn't want to put non hid lights on nor did I want to pay for new HID's

BMC, great write-up - I have greater appreciation now for what Vito at ZWorks went thru to construct my headlights. Also glad I did not attempt this myself...

Figured I'd post a pic of my installation. Used one 80 mm halo per side and 2 switch back LEDs in the side markers. Took me about 25 hours to complete lol pretty happy with everything though. Switch backs run during the day off running lights and switch to Amber when I signal/hazards. Halos are SMD and are controlled by Bluetooth with my phone. They go any color.

Sweet - like the Bluetooth concept - I wanted my blue switchbacks but strayed from blue demon eyes as I'm trying to avoid the cops. I think if you get two cops stopping you for a headlight out that you're asking for the entire fleet with all blue, all on, like a flare in the night lol

Has anyone used the new Morimot XCB LED Halo's that TRS started carrying in place of their previous halos?

What halo ring and what size did you use? The one from ZLEDS?

Finished mine. Removed all CCFL rings and put LED circuits from ZLEDS. They are very bright, can use it as DRL now

How did you get the top and bottom Grey pieces of the shroud to be transparent? I'm doing this retrofit at home and can't figure out how you did it.
