It's like my scrap wood and your beautiful instrument are two peas in a pod. The **** is walnut from my parents kitchen cabinets and maple from my kitchen window trim. Your instrument looks like a maple center with some awesome dark mahogany sides. That is one attractive instrument.

Good eye for my wood, Mike.

Maple-walnut neck-through Claro walnut body.

Going to close the thread but have to ask a question... Just WHAT does a Hebi Bebi feel like that they sell for $300 (!!) in a single day?!?!? I swear I just approved this ad this morning!!

I know they're popular but..

Must feel like a nice set of ummmm no idea, looks a little nicer than your ebay special. But its it's cooler engraving.

That last one I made fits my hand like nothing else and I still would have been hard pressed to spend more then $25 for it.

No haven't tried to add a weight, I did have an idea of making one out of concrete countertop mix I bet that wouldn't be light weight... Haven't done it yet though.

Make one out of marble scraps lol

After you figure out what shape is best with wood. I'm sure you could experiment with cool rocks

Of all of the ones you've made from wood the walnut and red maple definitely looks by far the best, just a shame there's not much weight to it. Have you tried getting hold of any Ironwood? That stuff is heavy and tough, plus its a nice color too.
