if you cut a 1/2 inch your gonna drop just about that much more...
some distance is soaked up in the suspension geometry so my advice is to cut a little, then remount and check it out..... and if you want to cut more then do it again.....

Rowlett, I do not believe that the cut will hurt your rear shock by itself. However, with your spring change plus the extra half inch, you may end up stressing the shock and end up having to change it earlier.
Looking at your drop though, it looks even for the front and back. I would only suggest cutting the mount if your rear is sitting higher than the front, like with the stock suspension setup.

I have mine cut on my sport lines. I love the drop and I have yet to have a single problem in the rear. Now my front is messed up and i need to replace my struts with less than 2k miles on them due to my skunk 2's have a crappy spring rate and being our roads are so bad here in biloxi. Im happy with my rear drop. i might cut the rubber mount down some more or just but some rubber shrink wrap around the top of the spring and completly take the rear mount out to prevent noise.
this was the rear drop with my skunk 2's. i have the same drop with my sportlines

I have an 04 stock and did 3/4". I left 1/4" of cusion at the top for spring mount and it leveled it out nice, Stock ride but better weight transfer and loading throught turns.
I used a port-a-band saw at work, took 45 sec. each.

Neat/cheap mod
Just another option for cutting it, if anyone wants to machine it or use a cut off disk you could freeze the upper mounts. When we want to modify a purchased rubber part here at work we have the guys freeze them before machining. Of course you can't do this for anything high tolerance as the part will expand when it thaws, but for applications like the the upper spring mounts that process would work great.

ok what i need to know is how to measure my front height to my rear so i know how much to cut.
i assume looking at just how the tire and fender match can give incorrect results since everybody has different tire sizes
Oh i have a stock suspension
Im saving for coilovers......i just really need something cool to do with the car.....cuz its cold and i have nothing to do....but work on the car

Mine are done, cut .5 off, came out perfect the first time.
I have noticed that my rear spring rates have changed being that they are progressive springs, not linear like the stockers. So I had to stiffen the compression with the fronts to balance out for the stiffer spring rate in the rear, if not the car felt like the rear was hopping.
Will get some pics posted up soon.
Koni yellows, with the new revised rear struts for easier adjustments.
H&R springs which have a drop of 1.3 front and 1.0 rear.
