Default Brake Dust

I've got just over 1,500 miles now on my 05. The front wheels look horrible all the time because of the break dust coming off the wheels. Does this get better with time or what is everyone doing to prevent this?

Get rid of the OEM pads. Look in the Brake section, they have some great recommendations.

I have the Hawk HPS pads and the wheels just stay clean whereas the stock pads messed tham up in a day or two.

I am going to look into that because it is horrible. Can I ask what you paid for the new pads?

HPS pads should run you a little over $100 but I hear it's well worth it. Bought mine but haven't installed. Waiting to get new rims first and wear my OEM ones out a bit more.

Look into getting Hawk HPS at: www.raceshopper.com or EBC "Greenstuff Sport Pads" from: www.courtesyparts.com Either will solve your dust problem.

Cool - thanks. Did you have to change the rotors at all or just the pads?

I have cross drilled/slotted rotors also waiting to be installed but if it's just brake dust that you're concerned about then I don't think new rotors are necessary.

kamz: where'd you get your x-drilled rotors if you don't mind me asking, and for how much?

I have the brake dust as well, but I really don't want to change my pads to Hawks, I heard of them squeaking like crazy. My 03 Z had the Hawks and they were quite embarrasing when coming to a stop. ( I bedded them in properly). I would rather have dust then annoying squeals.

I got them from a GB for $230 I think it was at the 350zmotoring forum.

i have the hawk hps as well, and the brake dust situation is so much better. The squeaking from the pads doesn't really bother me. I've heard different accounts from different people but as far as mine go, it's not that loud and i barely even notice it. It doesn't squeak very often for me either. My stock pads seemed to squeak much more often than the hawks.
