Default suspension: Pros only

Ok im not a noob to any of this so please no newb answers, but if you know what your talking about, please, i need a little help.

1. i know shorter springs will be harder on stock shocks, but does the stiffness of the spring also have that effect?

2. To loosen the back end, meaning more oversteer, i would want stiffer rear springs, right?

3. How much stiffer would you think is best, i dont have a problem with stiffness, just wondering what your personal exp. is with stiffer springs and this also has to do with question 1.

4. most important question, im running 18x9 and 10.5 both 30mm offsets, tires are conservative: 245/40 and 275/40, if i lower 1.2" front and rear will it rub. Has anyone here run a similar setup and had rubbing problems.

Thank you.

The following cause-effect statements assume all other characteristics of the car are unchanged. Sorry for long response, but sounds like you want real answers.

1. Shorter springs with no change in spring rate will simply lower the car, which lowers the cars center of gravity, which reduces the tendency to roll (reduced moment) during a turn, braking or acceleration, and increase the possibility of bottoming out the suspension. Shorter springs (without a change in spring rate) does not directly have any impact on your shocks.

However, shorter springs typically come with higher spring rate (stiffer). A stiffer spring, regardless of whether it changed your ride height or not, will wear shocks quicker, due to the quicker "bounce" (higher frequency), puts more cycles (up/down) on the shocks.

2. Stiffer springs in rear will increase oversteer.

3. I dunno...lots of variables. Suggest trial-error. (FYI, there are a few other things you can attempt to increase oversteer (ie, increase front traction, softer front sway bar, optimize front tire pressure, lower rear tire pressure, shift center of gravity forward).

thank you, i was already aware of everything except for the part about the springs, so ytour aying if i lower 1.5 all around but keep the same spring rates, there will be no extra shock wear?
