Is it possible to inspect brake pads for wear -
without removing them? How do I tell how much life is left in the pads?
My fronts were replaced at about 25K at my dealer's recommendation. At 45K miles, I'm wondering whether my rears are due. I'd like to do the work myself. How do I check to see if they need replacement?
Thanks,
Mika

You probably might have to take the wheel off minimum to get a good look at the caliper and pads in them. You don't have to take the pad out, but you can estimate where the pad is at. If it's like at 1/4 of the pad thickness left, change them out already. It's really easy with stock nissan calipers only one piston per caliper, with a floating caliper. The brembo's are only slightly more of a pain because you have to compress more pistons, 2 each side for front, but the rears are only single piston per side so they are easy. Just compress with a c-clamp or something similar to press the piston in.
