Greddy Brakes = Alcon?
#5
After a little research I found the answer. Greddy JDM has 2 GRex brake upgrades... the Alcon GRex brake kit and the non Alcon GRex upgrade kit. They only offer the non-Alcon kit here in the US. But I'm going to try my best to get one.

absolutely NOTHING wrong at all...some of the highest quality components in the world, period.
However, they don't really make "bolt on kits" as some other manufacturers do...they are more geared towards custom, build to order motorsports level kits, or they make kits to spec for companies that outsource to them (ie prodrive, greddy, etc)
I had the Alcon/Prodrive setup on my Impreza back in 2000 (with the kit they sold on the Impreza P1 in the UK)- absolutely phenomenal units. This was a 4 piston setup, using Mintex pads, and then Ferrodo for track days...car was daily driven and did about a dozen track days a year, and never once gave me a hiccup. This was the first "big brake kit" our shop ever was involved with, and I recall everyone commenting on how expensive they were when I mentioned I purchased them. When they were finally installed, everyone was singing a different tune - it totally transformed the car in every sense of the word, for the better.
Having used several BBK's for the Z, I have not found one to be any better nor worse than another......the pads have a far greater impact

Even OEM brakes can be dramtically enhanced just by changing pads. And tires is another area that makes a world of difference.
When selecting a brake kit, I tell my customers the same thing. They are all oustanding, and it really is a matter of your budget, and the asthetics of which brake kit you like. I would have no hesistation recommending Stop Tech, Wilwood, AP, Endless, or Grex.

ok, i forgot the guys name but i did meet him at ias.. he was a friend of jordans. who ahd zeal coilovers and endless big brake kit. his friend had grex/alcon brake kits. The one w/ the grex alcon big brake kit. Said that the chatter was unbearable and that the pedal feel was not good. they had installed, reinstalled, bled, re-bled as well as cutting the pads a little turning the rotors.. and no matter what they did the brakes were just not that great. and he was grealy disappointed in his kit. and instead opted for the endless big brake kit for his z.
i believe he is on my 350z.. so hopefully he can chime in here...

It is unlikely he had the actual Grex/Alcon kit...they make several kits for the Z. The ones Greddy brings into the US are not Alcon calipers, they are the new made in Taiwan calipers (ala JBE - same exactly caliper made in the same factory). The Alcon units are special order only from Greddy Japan
I bet a pad swap would have helped him out...not sure what pads Greddy USA includes with the new style caliper they use.
The Grex/Alcon (call them Japan spec) setups come in a variety of pad configurations...some of the kits include Endless CCR pads, and the other versions, at least the ones we have done here, used Pagid pads
